Hi forum members

I forgot to purchase a clutch centering tool.
Is there an alternative way to centre the clutch?

Thanks

Thanks...I have another questio...
I have purchased new pressure plates. Should I replace the friction plate?don't know if the friction plate is " shaped" over time. I'm concerned my friction plate is not completely flat and won't make proper contact with the pressure plates..

Cheers

Oh yes. Your concern is valid.
Besides, when you've got 'er all unbuttoned it'd be a waste not to install a fresh one.

post #143, page 3 on My rennovation thread shows how I made a very handy alignment tool in minutes which worked perfectly.

Align everything before you nip it up and hey presto!

Hi there, I think that, unless you're planning to make a living repairing old bmw motorcycle clutches, your best bet is the "paper mate marker" solution, shown on CF's previous post.
The centering tool is required only to let the gearbox spline easily and safely mate with the friction plate during the gearbox mounting.
Once this has been done, the friction plate will self center the first time you play the clutch lever and thus opening the pressure plates.
Best regards
JAP
