Just a quick plug for Aisat Instruments in Canning Vale WA for a speedy fix to replace a couple of gears  to restore my odometer. Looked through the forum but not having nimble hands decided to let them handle it. A very good service.
Cheers
Mike

That's good to know as there aren't many who will do a BMW speedo. Otto Instruments in Brizvegas wont do them any more but will sell the parts and give lots of advice.

Are the odo gears on the K100's the same as the R100GS?? The odo on my GS only works when it feels like it and even then it lies, but I do have a couple of stuffed K100 insruments I could pull apart if the gears fit.

I am not sure if this is true or not but have been told bot to reset the odo while moving as it can chomp the gears up.
I have never tried it and don't intend to be the bunny.

Good work Mike, but to clarify, did you supply the gears or did Aisat provide them?
I had a look at their page, but could not really see much about fixing our old clocks

Hi folks,
Aisat provided both gears ($38 for the 44/16 and $24 for the other which I presume is the 12 as its not on the invoice) that had failed, and looking at what they charged me its in the ballpark for trying to buy them from overseas.
They provide a service for all gauges, my mate who has just restored a 400/4 got them to do the gauges and they look like new.
Thorsten at BMBikes recommended them to me.
Cheers

I have reset the odo a few times while moving without any (known) problems. This has only been done at fairly low speed as fiddling with the reset knob presents a bit of a distraction from watching the road. I don't do it as a matter of course, usually only after I've pulled out of the service station and realise that I'd failed to reset it while I was fuelling the bike.

However, based on your comment Rick, I think I will err on the side of safety from now on and ensure that I don't fiddle with it while riding - we all know these little plastic gears are getting to a fragile state of their long life, so why risk it?

Since getting my Garmin Zumo GPS (which provides a estimate of miles to go based on a user set tank range and low fuel warning) I have relied less on the odo to plan my fuel stops, but I have become more disciplined at re-setting both Zumo and odo when I am stopped!
