I called in to someone for a coffee last week.

He was sorting his bike gear and cleaning a pair of boots. Knowing he is a stickler for quality I spotted the boots were a very good design but they had the look of something well seasoned rather than being fresh out of a box. Quality and design were brilliant and I decided I should see about a pair. Not cheap but good for 20 years or more and can be hand made to your own specification so now I can get my extra 25mm height in them for the K. I was impressed with them.

My friend has what looks like the Roadster but I think I prefer the Roadrunner but would get them made with some extra height in them, even an extra 15mm makes a difference because unlike changing stanchion length or rear shock length it has no effect whatever on the handling.

The Bahn Rider looks very good but I am only 173cm and I think it is made for taller riders.

I was very impressed with them because he has them over 15 years. He liked them too because you can walk around in them. I always take other footwear so that's not an issue for me. I also wear textile gear that comes down over my boots so they are partly protected anyway. I hate wet feet!!

The factory will also resole them if you need it.

My off in October really underlined the importance of wearing gear even for short runs. Bike was pushed over onto the right side with my leg under it, boots did their job. So did knee, hip, elbow and shoulder pads and my back slapped into the top box corner. Back protector was useful there. Left leg ended up on the pipes, a burn on the gear below the knee proved that. The ankle is exceedingly vulnerable even in a low speed fall over and the ankle protection is vital. So is a hard enough boot, a lot of weight comes on the foot when the K is on its side. The average age of the K rider is quite high and bones are therefore more brittle meaning the wearing of all the gear is much more important.

The one on the LT was a nice sunny day and a short trip and I debated not wearing it and then decided be wise.
