I have just fitted Oxford grips. I have located the wiring under the tank for the OEM grips and was planning to use that but it looks mighty thin! Is it okay with Oxford grips?
 
Does anyone know whether there is a fuse in that circuit or whether the OEM grips have their own fuse?
 
I have bought the ones with the “intelligent” control which allegedly tells you when the battery is draining because you’ve forgotten to turn them off but I am naturally sceptical as to how well it works. For that reason, I would prefer the supply to be switched.
 
If the intelligent control on the grips is reliable and works, I could go straight to the battery but really do like the idea of a switched supply
 
 
Am I worrying too much about the size of the cables for the heated grips  which are in the loom?

The current draw for the Oxfords is about equivalent to the OEM grips -- about 2.1A/grip (30W/grip) or equivalent to 60 watts total. The heated grips connector is fused through Fuse #1. The OEM grips are on a switched circuit, meaning they go off with the motorcycle ignition.

Thanks Rob. I will snip the Oxford wires then and plug straight in to the loom connector

Would there be a heated grips connector on my 93 K75s? How would I identify it? I have had mine running straight from the battery for 10 years. I've only flattened it twice, but this was on my winter list.

Small, black, square, 2-pin receptacle built into the wiring harness. Found under the tank on the left side, 1/3 down from the headstock.

Thanks Robmac, found the connection and even found the right plug on an old VW Passat wiring harness I had here. All wired up and working now.

I bought the '75 Passat  in '86 or '87, Three days after I bought it, it blew a radiator hose and we cooked the motor before we realised. I rebuilt it, drove it for three years then bought another. They were the most unreliable pieces of crap I have ever owned. I don't know why I ever bought the second one, but I remember thinking that it couldn't be as bad as the first and anyway I had all those spare parts. I have cut pieces of wire out of that harness for little jobs for years.
