There have been a few that have gone like that. There was a thread on it but not sure where to find it. I keep an eye on mine as it does not seem to be something you can repair, just replace it. Corrosion or winter salt on roads?

Jef,
It's fairly common for K's used on winter salted roads, I've got through at least 3 over the years. The current one on the outfit is lasting well, maybe because I painted it, but I do have 2 e-bay spares up in the loft.

I've had one go too - the ally started spalling under the footplate and I only found it when checking the bike over just before this year's Dragon Rally. I'll be looking for a couple of spares too.

Would it help to get it powder coated or even anodized?

i think anodizing is better than powder coating, i have had bad experience with powder coating, maybe it wasn't done right, i prefer 2 component polyurethan or other 2K wet paint or anodizing, galvanizing (on steel off course), etc. the next one will be painted

this was the first time i have seen it in this condition
