So, this year, after surviving a chill winter (for 2 months the outside temp never reached more that -21C), my bike shows some strange signs of what we may call a serious electrical problem.

The higher rpm's are, the more brightly battery lamp goes on. If I try to stop my bike, when I press stop, the lamp illuminates quite strongly, but not fully. When I turn on other things that use electrical power (signal or smth), the lamp could be seen illuminating very very slightly, when I press stop, the lamp shines quite clearly, but fells it shines about 50 percent less, than at full.

In this picture it illuminates fully. When the engine works at 1000 rpm, it illuminates very very slightly. You can hardly see it. The higher rpm is, the more strongly it illumintes, but when I press to stop the bike, and the rear brake lights turn on, the battery lamp illuminates quite clearly, but as I said not fully.

What is the battery voltage with the bike off (engine not running) and what is the battery voltage with the engine running at idle. When you speed up the engine to around 2,500 what is the voltage then?

When you apply the brakes with the engine running at idle the red light will slightly glow. This is only visible at night time.
This is the case on my K75 and K100.

Don't worry about that, it's quite usual with the K100! it is because the alternator is not very powerful (460W 33Ah). If you take one off a K 1100 or a 16 valves machine, you'll not have that problem (45Ah)

Jeez, and I though the puny 280 watt alternator on my 'olde' Airhead was a weakling! With a good quality battery, good brushes on the voltage regulator, and a 'trickle' charge now and again, the bike should have more than adequate power to spin the starter over, heat your electric vest, warm your hands on frosty mornings with heated grips, power that 110 watt headlight globe, and re-charge the battery without any glow.

But the later model alternator 'upgrade' is the go if you need still more juice.
