Rear rotor potato chip thin now and needs replacing. Anyone tried EBC rotors? Can get a new rear rotor and organic pads for $250.

Go for it they are good gear. Mine works better that the original. Only problem is they are straight steel and not stainless so they get a fine coat of rust after a week or so if you are in a humid climate or left wet.

Yup, I used EBC floaters on my resto '77 Airhead. Plus one on what KF said, they rust a bit after a while if left out in damp weather but it wipes off with one pass of the brake pads. If you have a choice get their HH pads which don't 'dust' as much as their 'normal' pads and they don't destroy the discs.

Was it alot of trouble removing the disc from the carrier or did a new carrier come with the disc?

The carriers have to come with the disc since it goes from a fixed disc to a floater if you're using their Pro-Lite range. The EBC part number you'd need for the rear of a non-ABS K100 is MD611, which is a floater with carrier. The pads, but don't quote me, are FA171HH, sintered. Bolt 'em on and away.

Not sure what I'm getting as the catalogue really doesn't say much. MC shop says its no problem to drill out the old rivets and install new ones as long as they come with the rotor. Any mods that need to be done using the floater or is it straight bolt on? Great pic and will look great on the bike. Where did you find it? I can't find anything for EBC on the net.

I've not seen any disc manufacturer sell a disc without the carrier for our particular bike
model, unless they're a remanufacturer. EBC are a bolt on affair. Good stuff too.

Got the brake rotor. It says stainless steel so I'm not sure what exactly you got. Came with the carrier. Only snag was one of the hex screws holding the carrier to the hub was stripped by the previous owner. No trouble getting it out with a screw extractor, however needed to remove the hub as not enough clearance for the drill. Got a new set of screws from local BMW and one of them stripped quite easily. Awfully soft metal.

Otto, what do you mean that you had to remove a stripped screw from the hub? Did you get a second hand disc with the hub attached? There are two screws that attach the disc and carrier to the final drive and they are tapered seat screws but are removed to take the disc and carrier off the final drive. If these are the screws (item 2 in the diagram) you're referring to, they are intended by BMW to be one-use screws. EBC branded brake discs have fixed floating rivets or buttons round the outside edge of the centre carrier holding the disc on, as per my earlier posted picture.



OK, I just twigged to what you mean...the screw that was stripped was on your final drive. Yes, they are soft. Very. Use copious amounts of anti-seize on them.

The fixed Brembo on the back of K's seems to eat brake discs faster than on some of my other bikes. The former R1100RS, K1200RS & GT models, don't last as long as the R-RT and other models with the slightly more moveable and smaller Brembo calliper. I use a 'mild' compound pad out back and have hope the bobbins on this EBC will allow for a bit of movement, which might lengthen the service life of the rear disc.

Yes it is. It's only 60,000 miles and they should last four times that distance
