Hello there,

I am a new owner of 1984 K100RS. This bike is originally exported to Australia/New Zealand, somehow made her way to Jakarta, Indonesia illegally. As the Indonesian government did not allow import of big bike since 1965 to 1998. The population of BMW bikes are relatively small number compare to Harley Davidson.

Many bike enthusiasts are collecting and refurbishing old BMW such as R25, R26, R27 (19950's). Few are the 1980's and 1990's model.

It is VERY difficult and can be very EXPENSIVE to get technical information and spare parts for BMW bikes. My bike is not in a good shape and form at present. The indicator lights , low beam, fuel gauge, speedometer are not working. She starts well but NOT idling properly yet. I want to continue looking after and using this bike.

Can someone please give me advice on how to properly repair and maintain this bike?

Your advice and or comment are much appreciated.

Regards,

adiwan,
Welcome, plenty of advice here.
First I suggest you go to the download page and get the manual and other information you may require. Spares are available in plenty so give the BMW agents a miss for a while. E-Bay have plenty of bits and pieces. Bert (Crazy Frog) our webmaster has a wealth of information and there are many experts here.
Rest assured you will be looked after.
Ajays

Welcome to the forum.

As Ajays said, the majority of information is available here. Be prepared for a few weeks of intense reading Laughing
For your speedometer and lights, I would suggest to first clean the contacts of the plugs under the instrument pod. As noted in the majority of posts related to electrical problems, corrosion is most of the time the culprit. Ground connections on the frame as well as the brushes on the starter motor are critical.

I believe that we have another registered member of this forum living in Jakarta.

Welcome Adiwan. I have a number of friends and colleagues who are originally from Indonesia, and yes, like many other Australians we find places like Bali a pleasure to visit. I just got back from Ubud and Dempasar... had a great time.

Can someone please give me advice on how to properly repair and maintain this bike?
This is a good place to start. Yes, go to the download page and get all the info, but also please use the "search" facility (top of the page) to seek out information that didn't make the tutorial section or the download page.

Your advice and or comment are much appreciated.
No problems, just ask and have a great time playing with your bike Smile

Hi Adiwan,
Take it steadily through cleaning and treating every electrical connection on the bike most of them are over 20 years old and have been in humid conditions and run irregularly both of which are recipes for corrosion.
Regards,
K-BIKE

Hi K-BIKE,

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I need time and energy to do the cleaning Smile

However I want it to run reasonably well while I am tending it. As of yesterday, she is totally "DEAD". Please see my other posting. Later today, 04.06 am here, I shall try to replace the Load Shedding Relay. See if it will work.

Cheers.
