A while back Corkboy mentioned a K100RS that was living not far from me. Went to see it....instant decision.

A few minor tasks needed doing to get it home...it got new front master cylinder......brakes bled......fuel tank repair......

Last night it made its journey home, 84 it is, must be the smoothest K100 I have ridden, feels like the K1100 through 5000rpm, even the riding position didn't disagree.

It had some other jobs done, braided brake lines, fuel and temp gauges, ignition repaired, fork seals done, rear shock done, injectors done, new fuel rail, panniers, load of spare bits, service history from 2002 so in good shape.

A few electrical gremlins likely to be earth issues so will sort them.

The usual jobs arising from being little used arise, it was a pig on old tyres, previous owner did 7,000 miles in 17 years, head bearings must be rock hard grease, but happy with it. On the way home the thought crossed my mind to take it to France instead of the K1100....may well happen as I do have a tow bar to fit it.

Damn that K Pox.  I just cleared one out of the garage, and here I am scouring Craig's list again.

Big trouble I have is that clearing my shed has now become priority....its decent at 24 x 16 feet. This has to do with ANOTHER K I am looking at......darn it. Summer project but that clashes with using a K.

At this moment the K1100 is parked outside the office with trailer attached.....camping gear inside......its Friday with a warm front drizzle passing through over lunchtime.

Must say, that does look a good, straight and tidy example. What's your plans? (no danger of you sawing off the rear frame loop of a perfectly healthy bike eh!)

Love the blue Olaf.  A most excellent purchase.  Perhaps with your stable now this one could get treated to a BSK makeover.  Just sayin'...  

Does anyone know what the extra lines on the speedo mean at 40, 80, and 135 mph?

On my rt they're at 50, 150 and 220km/h, maybe some sweet spot sort of thing.

Chocolate, the bike needs a bit more than a cleaning.  It sat in the back of a dealer's service department for the past 11 years.  The fuel has turned the stuff in the tank into goo, and the fuel sender is shot.  Most of the rubber is perished as well, and there are some gremlins in the wiring harness.

Seller had disassembled the fairing with plans to sell it.  Fortunately, only the Corbin seat was sold before I got it.

I'm looking forward to a frame up restoration over the next year or so.

My K100LT was at risk of that happening due to being rear ended. But 88 at a certain point came across a same colour full set of plastics in same colour......also has a right hand engine cover so now I have all the parts needed to go back on road. Over time I have spare wheels fuel rail injectors pump etc etc so all the bits are there. The one dilemma I do have is fuel tank is dented......but I came across a brand new K1100 tank in 2017 but its in my K1100 colour.

My incentive? The K100LT I have is one of the last ones made.

Hi all I have been bitten too! 
                                         I have a 1990 k100lt that has served me very well for the past 3 years anyway i have always fancied a k1100lt since getting to know these bikes, to cut along story short I did a deal on one and am now the owner of a 1992 K1100lt milage is 45k full history all mot`s full luggage with inner bags and an original BMW K1100 tank bag and owners manual with original bill of sale! original tool kit too! It has been sitting but I got it home this weekend and checked it over. Sadly it has been on its side stand for some time and the rocker cover gasket now has a slight leak (very slight). It also has a slight weep from the water/oil pump (tear drop size). IT cleaned up very nicely and fired up no problem I will need to service it as its a bit lumpy on tick over. The only thing I had to do was reset the ABS. The radio is original does not work is their any one who can repair these? it lights up and has display but buttons does not respond or handlebar controls. It also has new tires front and back which is a bonus! I took it out yesterday and did over 30 miles on it wow what a difference from my k100. 
                                                                       Sadly I will have to part company with my K100 I will probably stick it on flea bay in a couple of weeks. happy LT owner!

Hi well the 1100 feels more punchy more responsive not to mention the heated grips and the electric screen are nice welcome touches! It also felt lighter sort of giving a more confident feel almost like the centre of gravity is lower down?, Now having said that i am comparing it to "MY" k100 which has 99k miles however it is in good condition and I looked after it well but their is a more modern feel to the 1100! if that makes sense? so i have to take into consideration my new 1100 has a lot less miles new tires better breaks para-leaver final drive set up but it felt easier maybe a little more sporty?

I have a question on this K100RS.

Its very noticeably more perky than the 84 K100RT I also have. Having ridden the K1100LT and the K100RS the same evening on the same route I have a very direct comparison.

Both have good and clean injectors, done within last 5,000 miles and are all original.

88 mentioned to me this may be down to what have been referred to as hotter camshafts.

I am liking it because its got considerably more life than I expected and I don't think its down to low miles. It has 29,500 miles. The RT when I got it only had about 35,000 miles and felt more perky than the K100LT I was using at the time, admittedly probably in need of injector cleaning etc etc.

So, can anyone enlighten me on this. VIN is in my signature.

I could be wrong, but the bikes have different final drive ratios.  That may contribute to a different feel.

Also, I think the RT is a few pounds heavier.

Has the RS had it's timing advanced?

You are correct in the final drive ratios, but the RS is taller ratio than the RT I already have a spare RS 31/11 16 spline but its only a small difference, RT 32/11.

The RT is heavier but I am nor sure its by much as I am being told its 249/253 kilos.

Timing I think is unlikely to be advanced, its only showing two owners in the log book and both very conservative.Howver I do know the HES was replaced so it is possible something happened there. I haven't looked at anything yet.
