Hey all. I'm thinking getting Mgadget's Pro instrument and i m a bit confused with the Neutral Light indicator.
My original GPI never got to show the neutral green light and number 0 on my lunch box. I ordered another used one GPI from motoworks but the same problem.
The only way to see the green light on is to make contact with a certain combination of the four cables, so its not a lunchbox issue for sure.
So to the point./
1. Does the Motogadget Pro needs the original GPI to display the Neutral light or not? ( i know some Acewells dont need the GPI installed )
2. Is servicing the GPI unit doable or i should get a new one to be sure? Its not a cheap part.

Thank you gentlemen.

I can't answer (1) but (2) is a problem with the GPI switch on the back of the gearbox. Yes, it is servicable (most of the time) - search 'gpi switch' on the forum for many threads on the subject.

It is easy to test the GPI circuit to see if the problem is the switch on the transmission or the circuit board in the cluster.  The LCD, green N lamp and power to the start button are a replaceable subassembly within the cluster.

Neutral Light for 1985 k100 and Motogadget pro Gpi.pcb

Find the GPI switch connector under the right side battery cover and unplug it.

It has four wires:
Brown
Yellow/Black
Yellow/Blue
Yellow/White

Switch connector: When the transmission is in neutral all three of the yellow/other color wires should have continuity with the brown ground wire.

Other connector: If you ground all three of the yellow/other color wires then the LCD in the cluster should read 0 and the green light should come on.

Thats exactly what i did.
using that method i managed to get the green light to come on on the cluster and also the -0- number to display on the small lcd screen.
So i guess i have a faulty GPI unit. What makes me suspicious is the fact thats the second ( used though but like new outside ) sensor i get and not working.
Probably before getting a brand new one i 'll try dismantling this one to check the inner.

The Ks don't have too long a list of known faults/weaknesses, but the gear position switch is definitely on it. Doesn't surprise me that you got a duff replacement.

My bike has a faulty gear sensor...least of my worries.

I just placate myself with accepting it as another endearing idiosyncrasy. Added to ... no speedo, ropey tacho, slow leak at back of gear box, an occasional knock up front I can't find (next: pull the forks and dismantle)

The gears work fine obviously but I do get the occasional neutral in between 4th and 5th

Just as well annual historic bike inspection is carried out by Stevie Wonder.
