A track day at Snetterton in 2013 is when I last used my 1984 K100.

Very soon after an awful rumbling sound, reminiscent of a failed big end, could be heard.
I was confident that the big end was OK and resignedly accepted that the output shaft was failing.
So, I put the K away and for the past 7 years I have been riding my R series airheads and oilheads.
Of late the covid 19 lockdown has left me with an excess of time on my hands. I know, thought I, tear down the old K and finally repair that output shaft.
So I got up on my hind legs to address something I should have started years ago. Of course one of the preliminary jobs is to remove the alternator. The rubber shock absorbers where the alternator engages with the engine were fine.
But, hold on, what's that slight roughness as I rotate the alternator on the bench?
Doh! It's Homer Simpson hit my forehead time.
Long story short. I rebuilt the alternator with new bearings. Put the unit back in the bike. Started her up and that dreaded big end rumble type noise is gone, to be replaced by that sweet turbine like sound that the bike always made.
