When checking the fault codes on the 2.1 Motronic diagnostic socket, I get a 1431 code? cant find what this means. I switch off the ignition then retest, supposed to go to the next fault code but I still get 1431.  anyone able to interpret this for me?  K100 16V. Thanks.

I believe so, initially I had 1133, hall trigger,  started the engine then re tested and now get 1431, very definite but i am willing to be corrected. I was expecting 0000 or 4444, end of sequence. There must be a list of other code though I have done a web search and can't find anything.

I have a few manuals and none of them mention that code, the only ones appear to be as Mike D mentioned.

diagnostic fault code. Motron10

Not trying to be a clever dick, but that fault code has been transposed across the thread. Need to be sure that would-be-solvers are on the same page.

Is there a more efficient way to read this diagnostic code?

I'm considering purchasing an OBD Link scanner (along with the Motoscan app) for use on my R1200RS (for resetting service reminders etc). I wondered if a suitable connection exists (or can be made) between the OBD scanner and the K's diagnostic plug?

Apologies if I'm derailing the post but it is sort of on topic  Embarassed

AFAIK the OBD port was introduced to the K range with the demise of the brick that is when the across the frame engines were made. An educated guess is from 2006 onward.

Yeah it seems right. I've been searching and our bricks are far too prehistoric for such tech  diagnostic fault code. 177381

The Hexcode guys produced two devices for reading Motronic equipped models that had the small three pin diagnostic port.

The early version was a bit awkward to use, but the second was more simple.

With this device and the associated software you could read and reset the engine and ABS fault codes, check the TPS etc.  The device does not work on the analogue Jetronic equipped bikes. Of course the early bikes have minimal sensors compared to the R1200 onwards models for which there is a totally different GS-911 device.

https://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-911/function-chart

I understand the round multipin diagnostic connector first appeared on the K1200 (Brick) models.

I have a suitable GS-911 standalone device and associated s/w for use on the Motronic bikes.

Is that the round 20 pin connector that the cars had?

Hi Rick,

No, the bike socket has the availability to have 10 pins, but only 5 are actually fitted.

Diagnostic ports was made a standard on all new cars I think around 2006. Bikes were not subject to the same legislation, so could go their own way, which they did, both in the hardware form factor and the software protocols.

There came a time when devices such as the motoscan app and a suitable round connector could be used, although the software protocols were still BMW specific.

In 2017 this all changed with the Euro 4 legislation. That is when BMW went to the standard 'D' type connector as found on all cars and what allowed the use of more standardised Diagnostic kit.

While the GS-911 is expensive, it is a very good piece of kit, and as you would expect it or the alternatives on the market, are a must for working on the modern BMWs.
