I have noticed of late that cup holders seem to have found there way on to more and more motorcycles. It seems to mostly the big cruisers but not always.

I wonder sometime what an acceptable work load is while driving. People now have earphones in listening to music, their GPS, phone calls, passenger or other riders on intercom. They also have to deal with phone and GPS physically at times not to mention the video game dash board of a modern bike.

So it is no wonder they need a sip of coffee now and then.

I guess I am old and ...well stubborn but why not enjoy the ride, pay attention to the road and those around you then stop for a coffee? You can check out the map and talk with your buds make that all important phone call.

Hmmm
Completely with you re. 'coffee on the go',
...but have you ever noticed there are no flat surfaces on yer average velocipede on which to place your latte whilst having a break outside the coffee shop?
Bikes I've encountered have often seemed to offer partial possibilities with various rounded, smooth surfaces here and there, all of which resulted in a slide and spilt coffee. But a proper flat place to rest a cup - never.
Now, consider yer average machine shop lathe. These always used to get rated as to which was a good 'tea lathe' according to where/how safe you could park your mug. The Herbert capstan lathe was just about the best tea lathe ever, according to the shops I worked in.
Might go outside and smash a flat spot on the tank of my old K  Smile

lol, too funny

perhaps  hinged rs air vents at the top of the fairing liners would be close to holding a cup of java ?
] recon a good 70 odd mm hole saw could make a good cupholder on one of these that i built  a while ago ?

I believe that the last of the K1200LT range had cup holders as a genuine BMW accessory.

I think you should just hold the mug out towards an on looker and politely ask if they would mind holding it.
You can retrieve as you wish for a sip before holding it out towards them again. I am sure they will take it. If you are very lucky and you choose to walk around a little they will even follow you.

Great experiment in human nature also saves on future body work.
