Many of the automotive paint suppliers can mix it to that code and also put it in a rattle can. I don't know who in the UK but here in Oz they are very good.

To verify:
579 is BMW's color scheme code, not BMW's paint code. The paint code for that scheme is 175. Regardless, some paint suppliers can scan a part with the desired color and reproduce it relatively well. Google shows a few custom paint suppliers within Surrey.

Once you know the actual paint color code, go to a BASF paint dealer and have them mix it in their Glasurit paint system.  That will get your best match because that was the system the factory used to put the original paint on the bike.

Most auto paint dealers don't have the formulas for BMW bike colors.  They can use their computer to get close, but not perfect.  I now get my paint mixed by a BASF dealer near me.  It's a little more expensive, but I know the color is exactly correct.

While you are there, get the technical data sheets for the paint.  They will have the gun setup specs for pressure so you will get the correct "flop" of the particles in the paint.  This is necessary to get the best match for the highlights

Any place that uses the PPG paint computer will do a good job. Take them a tail cowl handle so scan.

The guy who set up the BMWbikes site died a few years ago, so you can't buy direct from the site.

As you are in the UK you could try RSpaints

Motorcycle & scooter paint - touch up or respray for Honda Yamaha Ducati Kawasaki Triumph BMW Harley Suzuki Aprilia KTM Classic Vintage | RS Bike Paint

First of all, welcome to the forum, RobR. A Members' Introduction post before starting a thread is required, expected, and a fairly decent thing to do, before you seek what you came here for. Thanks for complying, post facto.

Ah OK, fair enough, but you did manage to locate how to post to your topic. I suggest looking at the 'Portal' where you'll see all manner of Member Introduction posts before you, which I urge you to try. Go to the 'Forum' tab at the top, second in from the left. As soon as you click on that you'll see it's the very first item in the list and the forum admin have highlighted it in red. Click on the blue 'Member's Introduction' header, then 'New Topic' - that'd be you.

Of course, we see that it is possible to post without first introducing yourself...but we do like to know who the members are and to be able to welcome them. It is amazing sometimes that there are members with vast K experiences and some with none, but they can all find a home here with their varied K Bike interests.
Thanks.
