What years interchange with an 85 k100? They look the same into the 90's. I would like plug and play replacement though. No grief in swapping wanted. Lol

1985 to 1985.

1986 and later only have a single low fuel lamp where as the 1985 clusters have two, 4l and 7L.

Looking at the pinouts an 86+ cluster would probably work but I've never tried it.

At some point early on, I think 5/85 manufacture date, BMW switched from rectangular cluster pins to round ones so that might create another issue for you using a later cluster.

My 1987 K100RS (manufactured Mar 87) has rectangular pins so must have been a bit later

Early ones on the speedo side have two fuel lights, left one is orange and has 7L, right one is red and 4L.

The bolted on gas tank is mated to the early one, if your tank is NOT bolted you need the later one. You can also fit a gauge for the later tank [sensors also differ] as plug and play, the loom is ready for it, but not the early one.

Another but less reliable clue is early ones have the pillion grab handles in the seat but these often get changed.

Finally Very Happy the clusters with the two fuel level lights have one pin missing on the rear (pin 8 ) but the later ones with a single fuel light have two pins missing (pin 8 and pin 20).

Now... I'm just waiting for someone to correct my pin numbers!

Anyway, the answer to your question is that you need an instrument cluster with two fuel warning lights on it.
