Hi there,

I've rebuilt my oil/water pump.
So, all fluids were flushed.

Now, with everything in place, tighten and siliconed... I've noticed a leak.
There is no pressure once I haven't replaced fluids yet. I've just moved the bike position.

a) Im intrigued why there's a hole / drain from the water pump? (See pics)
b) If it's leaking with almost no fluids (just a residual nothing) what will happen if I fill that up?
c) I saw a video o people making fun of other closing that drain with a screw...now I understand why...

It was some mistake I did rebuilding oil/water pump?

Thanks much!

There's no telling what will happen until you fill it up and run it. We don't know whether that's oil, coolant or tears. It's unlikely though that detritus in your garage will be piled up against the overhead door by a pump leak-generated vortex but if that happens, please post some photos. You probably should open the door just in case, and wear overshoes.  Smile

The hole's purpose is to indicate at the earliest possible moment when seals are leaking rather than your finding out by having engine trouble caused by a faulty combo pump. Either oil and/or coolant will drip from that hole. You should fill the cooling system with the correct amount and ratio of distilled water and coolant according to instructions, fill the crankcase with oil in the correct amount, run the engine for a few minutes then shut it off. If no fluid is on the floor the next day, you're golden.

If there's only a drop or two keep calm. Some riders have been able to log thousands of miles accompanied by a few drips. Others can't tolerate uncertainty. If you need to go back in there to replace the replacement seals (you wouldn't be the first, by a long shot), save the coolant and reuse it if there's no oil in it.

There's a hole with a similar purpose on the underside of the transmission where it joins the engine. Either engine oil or transmission fluid will drip from that one when seal leaks occur.

What is the unit of measure for residual nothing?  Nanosomethings? Laughing

It was zero DPHs (drops per hour)...
I've moved the bike and and I've noticed 1 DPH...
Im intrigued because I have almost nothing...

What seal you are talking about?

Did you encounter donut-shaped seals that fit over the shaft that has a gear on one end and an impeller on the other when you rebuilt it? If you did, those are them.

Hi K gurus,
I replaced the water pump seals on my 1990 K1, but the rubber oil side seal won't seat and there is a gap between the wall of the water pump and the seal no matter how hard I hit it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Check very carefully and make sure there is not the remainders of the old seal still in there.

I'm looking for some detailed photos or video of inside pump before and after seal is fitted, i would post photos of mine but the forum is telling me documents only.

Thanks Rick
Checked that all of the seal was out, and discovered that the original seal had a metal base and the new one is all rubber and hard plastic, tapped it out job done.
Cheers.
