Just looking inside the tank and can see what looks like a fuel filter or top of the pump on the lh side. There is a hose clamp just sitting loose over this. No fuel leaks and it runs fine. What does the clamp do and should I be stripping the tank to correct this with urgency?

pete...the fuel pump lifts out ......there are two plasic clips that hold it in front and back of the mount (carefully) squeeze them together and lift ,,but before doing this ...it maybe possible just to reach in there and reclip it on the hose

you will have to undo the 4 screws on the surround of the petrol cap to remove it .

whilst doing that check for a notch in the seal under the edge of the fuel cap housing to see if it lines up with a drain tube inside the tank (usually found to be 180 degrees the wrong way ....i suspect that most folks like to turn their their fuel cap so that its lifting towards the front of the bike and forget about the location of the drain tube and seal )

maybe the last owner just forgot to tighten the clamp after replacing the fuel filter ?
shouldnt cause too many issues but could leak back into the tank as its under nearly 3 bar presure from the pump ....so that in fact could lower the output presure..or pop off, stopping fuel supply .....just refit it ......

be carefull there is also a smaller breather pipe alongside the fuel pump that leads to the gause filter at the bottom of the pump ...mine broke up on mooving it ....
soo if possible get some long nose pliers and just reclamp the clip on the hose from the filler location .

many of us have had fuel pump / filter issues, sludge from old fuel and perishing rubber , i suspect its just age ....and the new ethanol additives affecting the rubber ...but maybe a good rinse out/ clean up of the tank could be a good thing especially if it has been standig idle for any length of time.

Hi there, if the clamp is loose, the pressure can push out the filter from the line turning of the engine.
Best regards

Well I took off all the fairings and fuel tank to sort the clamp. Looks like the retaining ring for the fuel pump is broken and a bodge repair has been done by wraping the pump in insertion rubber and putting a clamp around it to hold the rubber to the pump body. Sorted that but it's never that easy. Tank is dirty inside so I may need to strip it completly some time soon. Top mounts broken on the fairing so that's a job for tomorrow. Broken wire on the tank plug so replaced the plug and the wires back to the main loom. They had gone brittle because of a fuel leak. 7L light works now but not the 4L light, bulbs are ok. Have it running again now so just the fairings to go back on.

Has anybody used tank sealer on these tanks? I have used PPG sealer n steel tanks with good results but not alloy.
