Hi twincarb,

If you want to check the timing I have the BMW tools to do the job.

For a photo of the kit, have a look at post 1 in: http://k100rt.aforumfree.com/t3804-checking-the-timing-of-a-k100?highlight=ignition+timing

Although I hold the BMW tools for the BMW Club UK, I also have a lot of them myself. For the price of the postage you can borrow the timing tools.

Hope this helps

Mike

Hi Mike,

many thanks for the offer, which I would gratefully accept I registered with the BMW UK forum last night just got to wait till I get to work before I can do the rest of the joining. It's good to see that the Full club membership is 14 months long if I join now as well!

If you can PM me details for postage costs that would be great.

I did a manual adjustment (OK I know all adjustments are manual!) this morning I didn't have the garage light on which meant as I revved the engine I could see arcing and sparks from the alternator! Luckily I am in work tonight so I will be able to strip it apart and give it a good clean and check to see if i need to replace the bushes. Luckily on our bikes it only takes 15 mins to get the alternator out or is that a sign that I have worked on the bike too much!!!!

lol best I get to see the Dr then!

Stripped the alternator last night and was surprised to find there wasn't a woodruff key in it! I stripped it apart in the clean workshop at work so was able to check the floor easily to make sure it hadn't just fallen out but there was no sign of it anywhere! Can only presume its been stripped before!

Bearing are all looking good so am going to check the resistance on the windings and then spray the outer shell... the internals will be dropped into the sonic cleaner with any luck there will be no sparks when it's all rebuilt!
