Blakey speaks the same language as me. He mumbles in coherently when he is drunk.

Welcome John, Nice lookin Nekkid machine. Smile

Hope the non starting was a minor issue. I frightened myself in town recently, I had accidently hit the kill switch, which I don't normally use to stop the bike, after turning off the engine. When I returned to the bike, completely dead electrics!! Panic briefly set in before I sat on it and stepped thro' everything then sigh of relief. Don't always asume the worst eh?

nope, still nothing. its not the clutch, theres absolutely no power at all, no lights on the clocks, no brake lights, no flashers, horn, absolutely nothing at all. but there are no blown fuses and the battery is tip top, jump leads make no difference at all either. yet the day before it ran great, sweet as always.

Could it be your ignition switch having a problem?
Have you checked my color electrical diagrams
Do you get any power at fuse #5?
if yes, do you get power at the red wire going to the ignition switch?
- If yes, when you turn the key, do you get power on the green wire?

If you suspect that the ignition switch is faulty, before buying a new one you could fix your old one.

Hi John,

When you say the jump leads made difference, do you mean there are still no warning lights etc.

I would start to suspect the main earth or possibly the earth through the load shed relay and starter.

Mike

right ive sorted it. it was the battery! i made the first day apprentice mistake of believing what the technology told me! my multimeter said 13.5v standing, the optimate told me the battery was fully charged, the other battery tender told me it was also fully charged, and i just assumed that cos it wasnt giving me a red light that it was ok. the jump leads were my downfall, a look at them in daylight showed me corrosion where the cable meets one of the clips that i didnt see in the dark. so, this morning, i managed to get it running by replacing the battery with a huge leisure battery thats been in the shed for 10 years(seriously, its getting on for 15 years old this thing, but its a hawker and still holds a hell of a charge) as a temp fix its doing the job, though ive had to sack the tool tray and the control box is now wrapped in bubble wrap sat on top of it! ive also found a bit of evidence of previous owner bodgery that i'll put right, namely the inlet tube to the header bottle has been snapped off and then glued back on, and it leaks, so a small unit from a cx500 honda is doing the job for now, and the main live feed from the battery appears to be 3 pieces of red cable soldered together to make the equivalent of one thick cable! ho hum, anyhow, i'll draw this to a close now and say thanks for the advice, specially thanks to crazy frog for the colour wiring diagram, (and equally stick a pin in a voodoo doll of the head of the haynes manual company for coming up with the idea for a black and white wiring diagram) and the next time i want help, i'll post it in the relevnt section of this forum.
