Well its almost Christmas and I decided a couple of weeks ago that the children are old enough and I could really do with some "me time" so found myself a tidy little 1984 K100RS...now why did I choose an old beemer?

In the 70's I learnt to ride a bike as my only means of transport, that I could afford and as time went by I bought more suitable sized machines to suit my expanding presence...not too much but certainly beyond a CB125 at the time....anyhow I became heavily involved in motorcycle rider training and eventually got legal and achieved a NSW instructor licence ( the first in NSW I was told)...it was all so new in those days I was told to instruct one of the RTA's clerks who would be assessed after 2 weeks for a licence....he passed so I was on my way....oh yes I was then riding one of the following GPZ900 A1, FJ1100, VF1000R or GSX1100EFE as I owned all these in the eighties. The only model that was up there in the 80's I had not been able to afford was the K100....which is why I bought the RS last month...and I have no regrets.

There are some issues with the old girl but I will enjoy sorting these over time.Very Happy

MRA days I am on the right....

Hey that was us....we used to be part of MRA and did it as a community service much like stay upright and numerous other advanced riders courses.

good times indeed...will dig up the old photos and put em up here....a few good rally's in those days too...brass monkey, karua, long flat etc

the 80's were great for motorcycling...

Welcome to the forum Klompy. Now there has got to be a good story behind that name.

aaaaargghh yes feel at home already.....mind if I slip my shoes off and have a beer..the nicknmae Klompy has been passed on from father to son as long as we have lived in Australia...we emigrated from holland to Sydney in 1963 and my full name is John klompenhouwer...can you see the necessity for an abreviation.

We were poor so I could not afford a middle name so it was either Klompy or "wheelbarrow" this was what the drill instructors at recruits chose as they could not pronounce the full name.

My daughter and son have both worn the title with honour although "Klompy" does sound like a big twin with a spun big end bearing.

we also have relations in Toronto, South Africa and of course Holland...

you hit the nail on the head my friend...klompenhouwer is someone who makes clogs ....Klompen being clogs....sort of like Shoemaker or schumack...etc.

Not an imaginative lot when Napolean asked everyone in holland to make up there surname for the purpose of census...but some gave very rude names of genitals etc which that family is now stuck with forever...lol

so Klompenhouwer is just fine thanks..
