hi all, i have a littel acident when my k75 fell over, not good!. anyway iv bent the front break lever, no other damage. its a non-ABS 1990 K75S. I was thinking to try to bend it back but think it may snap. is it a strate forward swap over job or is it a tricky job, i can just imagen springs poping out all over the place. well thanks for any advice given.

regards joe.

you can straighten the aluminum with a bit if heat.
A plumbers propane type of thing will work.
Heat the part until, when you stroke it with the wooden handle of your hammer (or dry twig), the wood leaves a charred mark. No mark and it's too cool, mark burns off and its too hot (wait a while).

If you have Oxy Acetylene, brush the piece with the acet only flame leaving a carbon deposit. Heat until the carbon starts to burn off. Wait a minute and straighten the piece.
It's all going to get hot as Aluminum is very good at conducting the heat.

You can cool (quench) the piece if you wish before you straighten it. I usually work it hot and let the piece air cool when finished.

Cheers, M

I have been reliably informed of this tip for straightening aluminium levers etc. Haven't had a chance to test it yet but the guy that passed on the tip to me makes a few quid using this method:

Rub ordinary household soap bar over bent part of the aluminium, then heat with a blow torch until soap begins to blacken. Apparently, at this point the aluminium has reached just the right temperature (annealment point)to be carefully straightened by whatever method you choose. I will report back with results when I have time to try this out on a lady riding companion's Triumph Street Triple brake lever. Please use this method at your own risk as I will not be held responsible for the consequences Wink

Yes Krambo, we learnt the soap trick at school when beating aluminium sheet into a soup ladle, it does work.
