Just curious good folks, about what everyone else pays.

Our mob is spread all over the world.

I pay $ 3.50 US per US gal for premium here...(today and don't hold my breath)...Smile

That equates to roughly 40 mpg...8.75 cents per mile.

Reason asking is that last year, had some pals that visited Ireland and said that it was an incredible undertaking to rent a car there...that the insurance and fuel costs were daunting.

If true, I don't understand this. North Shore Oil is...There. Right? Refining the same I know will cost more, but what the heck?

Appreciate any thoughts about how this all works for a poor fellow in Kentucky who has some friends who still log with horse teams...Belgiums mainly.

Come to Australia. I am getting better than 40mpg, about 45mpg and it is still costing me 12.1c per mile. 98 octane is about $1.55/l here atm.
Australia produces about 60% of its own oil. Be thankful for your cheap prices.

A US gallon is 4 litres and I pay $1.68 per litre so that works out at $6.72 per US gallon and I get 56 MPG but that is for an imperial gallon which is 20% more than a US gallon. So I get 46.7 MPG for a US gallon and that works out to 14.38 cents per mile but the Australian dollar is 104.5 cents US today so taking that into consideration I get 15.02 US cents to the mile.
Fortunataly tha mile is the same in both countries.

Rocco, Rick G.

Thanks for the info.
Sure does give some perspective.

Have noticed that mpg seems to be going down some over the past 3 months.

Was obviously above or near 45mpg (us) but has declined recently.

Inadvertently might have overfilled with oil recently.

Will check the air filter next.

Be grateful...yeah. Got that. Certainly am.

Because the air flow is metered a choked filter won't give bad fuel consumption but it will affect the top end maybe. Injectors plugs and leads would be a better place to start looking for the lost MPG.

Consumption varies between 8 and 11 miles per litre. Average would be 10 but some bike runs where speed is around 50mph it would go to 11.5 miles per litre. At the moment petrol cost here is about €1.63 a litre [€7.40/$9.40 for Imperial gallon or I think $7.52 US gallon] meaning it is in the range of €0.14 to €0.20 per mile [$0.18 to 0.25].

Petrol cost across Europe is very much in a close range of prices.

Had some friends with kids stranded over in NY during the storm....staying in hotel.....got stuck there, not allowed outside the door and the hotel hiked up the room rate to $500 a night for the week they were stuck there. Talk about screwing the tourist. Happens everywhere.

I have rented cars in Ireland and US. Prebooked cars are cheap enough in both countries. Insurance may be a little higher here because there have been a number of serious accidents and fatalities caused by US drivers being on the wrong side of the road. The car hire industry world wide is controlled by the likes of Avis and Hertz and other large US operations and world wide is from time to time accused of questionable practices. Levels of insurance cover also vary significantly around the world and cover in Europe is generally quite high.

Personally I prefer to use my own car if I am on the other side as an unfamiliar car, in unfamiliar territors, driving on the opposite side is high risk. My car insurance costs me about €240 and the K insurance is just over €200 which is reasonable enough.

Thanks Rick and Charlie.
Haven't pulled the plugs yet. Shall. Need to, just because, but have been having too much fun!
Fine thoughts, as always... and it does smell a little rich.

Also was thinking that it may be a fuel quality issue.
Have noticed that it likes some better than others.
BP premium it likes.
I don't know if you guys have something like this site for finding better fuel.
This one is for Canada and the US.
Might be worth a look: http://pure-gas.org/

Thanks for the thoughts 92KK. Totally understand and that makes perfect sense, of course.
With the way some folks drive in the US anyway...I can't imagine what sort of mayhem that they might have caused in other places with different ways of doing things.

Doing new fuel calcs for what it would take to go after that neat blue bike on ebay in Cleveland, Ohio.

About 700 miles round trip. About $200 for fuel for the truck. Pretty sure will pass on it....but...

Might have some of Halo's thinking going on...in that when I've found something important in life, it's good to have more than one.

Heh.

At my last fill I used 17 litres for 210 klms. That works out to 12.35klms/litre. I think it equates to 29 mpg so its costing me 21 cents per mile(i think my maths is right)

I have only been doing mainly city riding and I have been ringing its neck lately so thats probably why my mileage isn't as good as some. Have yet to do a decent long trip to get a better average.
