Not to make light of it we are concerned for Col. He was to meet us and we cannot get hold of him. He had a three hour run to meet us and no response. Not answering his phone. If you know how to contact his family pleaze do so. Then tell us. Rossco

Just spoke with Klompy, Col was transferred from Orange Base Hospital to Westmead in Sydney, apparently in a serious condition after coming off his bike. Rossco and Klompy will try and see him tomorrow as they go back to Sydney.

Seems Col came off on the Goulburn road at Abercrombie. He is going to undergo an operation this morning and is still in intensive care. Klompy and Rossco will try and find out more, or at least find his wife today at the hospital.
No one has his home phone number so we have been unable to pass on everyones thoughts.

im sure, after hearing of col being transfered to westmead ...this is no small affair .

the family must be shattered ...

im heading to sydney over the next couple of weeks ...and westmead is top of my list .

hes a great bloke ...ready to go out of his way for many folks (including the long way home with ulrick and the supervisory role he played in the continuation of the trip to bingara then shawniis after )

Not good news at all, Col is a great guy. Wish him a speedy recovery.

I just came back from the hospital and he was in surgery.
When I got home there was a message from his wife and I just got off the phone to her (JO)

Col has
a bruise on his brain.
broken collar bone
several broken ribs
punctured and collapsed lung
broken (badly) right thumb.

The main reason for the transfer to Westmead Hospital was that he has taken most of the skin off the back of his right hand.
Due to the lung Col is being ventilated and hence unconscious.

Jo and family are on their way to Sydney now and have accomodation close to the hospital.

I have asked to be added to the sms list of updates and I will keep you posted.

Last night was pretty crap due to the frustration of not even knowing Col's last name.

A list has been started of emergency contacts to be given to a few of the more noteable forum members so if this situation ever arises again we can deal with it a lot easier. Hopefully the list will never be used.

Wishing Col a speedy recovery and positive thoughts to his family.

I won't be going to the hospital for a day or two to let his family settle in and cope with it all and Col will be unconscious anyway.

were you planning a personal notebook for each of the locals ?

there is a admin page unavailable to all members but moderators etc .

would certainly be a good place to store a list as such i suggest that we make that list by region

details can be released / emailed ---pmed as the need arises (not as a phone book ) ?

if you like, i could co-ordinate this regional list (australia, new zealand and oceania ) by pm rather than in the open forum

after all some folks prefer privacy rather than blurting it out to the www for anybody to read .

Good to hear/see the update. Col is a tough bugger and no doubt in his mind somewhere he is thinking....now I can fix this by doing that.....etc.. I knew Col's details, but didn't know that he was missing till late.
An emergency list is the way to go with a few(in the case of a gathering) having access to details. I have phone numbers of some of us in Australia....but that does not help when the phone you are ringing is with the missing person.
The network did work, but we can do better.
According to a 5th year med student (kids do come in handy sometimes) the bruising on the brain may keep Col "out of it" for a few days in order for normality to return.
Thanks Rossco for the hard work of keeping us in the loop. I have met the 18 year old daughter but not Col's wife.

Terrible news. Just adding my wishes for a swift and complete recovery for Col. It's always heart wrenching for family members and friends to suffer through an accident but more so at this time of the year.

P.S. Great bunch of guys for banding together like you did.

The local tv station just had it's news bulletin. Col's accident scored the following update.....induced coma, serious condition, his bike slid 20 metres on the road way. That is at 6pm on the 28th.

Col, Rickmeister and Rossco...on the way to Bingara earlier this year.

Thanks for the update Rossco, sounds like he has a long road ahead.
We should be down that way soon so may be able to call and give him a lift.

Bloody hell......justy blew into Canberra and saw this for the first time. Hope he's doing ok. Please pass on my regards and thoughts. I'll check back in here before I leave for home in a couple of days and maybe he'll be up for a visit on my way north.

I have just received an email from Jo.
I will not relay the entire message as it was intended as a general thank you and update to their friends and family and she has kindly added me to the list of recipients so I can let our family know how Col is doing.

This is the Col bit of what Jo said;

We have seen Col and he is not in an induced coma as the news at home is portraying. He is awake and responds to us talking to him but due to his pain relief he is very sleepy.

He is still intubated, this will continue for up to the next 72 hours.
He went to theatre this morning for his hands where they washed his wounds but no surgery was performed - looking at maybe doing it in the next couple of days.

Jo says thanks for all the thoughts and offers of help and assistance.

When I hear more I will pass it on.
