It was a glorious morning in the greater Phoenix, Arizona area as the sun rose over the "Rat Pack" riders group at 34 Degrees F. for their annual New Years Day ride to Tortilla Flats to the east of the city in the Superstition Mountains.

Tortilla Flats is a favorite destination for riders of all brands to enjoy the Arizona desert scenery & spendor, especially fun in the cooler winter months. From I-60 east take Hiway 88 north east past the Lost Dutchman State park and on another 14 miles or so through a few 'twistys", just past Canyon Lake to "The Flats". A cup of coffee and a plate full of country Biscuits & Gravy while seated on a genuine western saddle stool at the county bar is a great experience.

I had a scary moment when the rider in front of me had the rear wheel of his Honda "step out" in a sharp turn when he encountered some gravel riding in the center of the roadway instead of the clearer "wheel track". A couple of "stomps of the pavement with first his right foot and then his left, finally straightened out his giant wobble and sent him safely forward on his way again. Whew! He looked a little pasl when we both stopped to check his machine for a possable flate rear tire, but otherwise none the worse for wear.

A couple of Photos follow.

Looks like a great place to gather, those small villages are usually very friendly.
