Gidday Folks,

Nearly got the bike all sorted and ready for registration soon but I have an issue with my side covers.

When I brought the bike the lugs on the backs of both side covers were snapped off and broken and all that I have on each side is the steel frame mounted pin with rubber end on each side of the bike and also the 2 x brackets under the tank on each side.

Could someone please post a picture of the back of a side cover so I can see what and how they attach and then I can make something up to suit.

Also a close up photo of a side cover on the bike as there seems to be a fair amount of movement as to where it should be correctly position in relation to the tank and seat gaps etc., mine just don't seem to sit in there neatly.

Oh and how about spare ones, anyone want to sell a spare pair if you had them??, but I gather they are rather rare as I rang a few wreckers here in Oz, lots of K100 ones but no K1100, just asking..

Any help would be great.

Cheers Grant

On those side covers there 4 positions that hold them the rubber insert on a small bracket that attaches to the lugs on the tank the rear end which has a pin protruding from the forward section of the ducktail a clip made of plastic which clips over the steel lug on the frame that has a rubber bit about 12mm in diameter and a channel on the inside of the knee pads of the fairing.
My side covers don't have and never have had the clips that go onto the frame lug since I have had it and for quite some time before. They have never moved and never look like they may fall off. The clips are not part of the plastic but are fixed to the cover in a permanent way with plastic lugs that are melted over the holes and once they come off that seems to be it as I cant find any goo that sticks them properly.
Cant help with a pic as mine is in 1000 bits at the moment.

You could do what I did, I fitted K1100 side panels to my K100.

I clipped the panels to the frame using plastic conduit clips from Bunnings. They hold better than the originals!

Thanks.

I am pretty happy with the result. The 1100 panels fill in the 100 gaps when you remove all the lower fairings.

And the conduit clips really work great!

Here is the bike wearing the replacement panels.

Nice job bigsax. Looks good. Will give that a go myself. Mine aren't the correct panels for my model anyway and its impossible to find any decent covers that aren't broken.
Cheers

I'll be up on the GC 1st week in January. We should organise a coffee. You missed the last one.

Difficult to post pics from my tablet so will do when I get back home to Newcastle on Tuesday. I'm after the covers with the straight bottom edge.

Could make it to GC Sat, Sun or Mon after new year. I'll put a post up in the rides section.

"One of my girls should make it......☺"
Does she ride?
