Hi Everyone;

I've been 2 years at restoring an 87 K100RS. Thanks to Bert (Crazy Frog) and all the info on this forum I was encouraged to rebuild this neglected bike. It had sat in the driveway of a good friend for 7 years; yes out in the weather. A true testament to the bike, it was sun fried but nothing was seized. It's been a long slow process to dismantle, clean, replace, and paint (too many hobbies and projects).

Last week I got to drive the bike up and down the lane. I had never driven one before. It was such a thrill and it has got me inspired again to finish the last few details. Too bad it won't be till spring.

Thanks for all the info.

Let the adventure begin.

Cheers

Ralph

Way to go. Judging by all the UV fading on my bike I suspect it sat out in the sun with a for sale sign a year at least. It takes a long while to get them back to respectable condition, that's for sure. Now I carry around an inexpensive bike cover for use anytime it's parked outside for more than a couple hours. Wink

Thanks AJ ;
It's a long story how this came to be my bike. Despite having to get to know every bolt before I had ever driven one, I am really impressed with what I have seen so far. For 25 year old  technology and quality ... it's right up there. If it wasn't for this group and knowing the previous owner for 55 years I would never have tried this restoration.

You are right the sun was the worst, ruining everything that was rubber, painted, or touching gasoline.

 I have a ton of pictures. Hope to post some soon.
