Hi,

I wanted to exchange the seat cover on my K 100 LT (1989), but not sure which type seat do I have - is this the normal one, or "comfort"???  😕

Cheers,
Tarik

I would say it is a "comfort seat" but has been recovered

Looks like a recovered comfort seat to me too. But the seam looks all wrong.

Thanks for advices...

I got it with the bike, worked well until a few days ago - now it looks a rip will appear in the middle of driver's part. Have no idea why, can't feel anything is wrong when I press with a finger  😕

It's not an original '89 LT and it's not a Comfort. I've had both.
The original was a plank and not very comfortable over distance.
I picked up an original Comfort seat in the box from eBay and it was much better although slightly higher.
Looks like a recover job to me.

Maybe an original but has been recovered with a comfort cover, the seam across the centre does not match up with the top of the "hump".

I belive the seatbase is the same for bith seats, its only the cushioning and cover that differs, so you can grab a cover and most apolstery people can set the cushion up to fit

Hello

It's not seam at all - this is where the rip started to appear. That's why I wish to exchaneg the cover, b4 it tears along the rip...

There are a few different covers for a comfort seat on eBay in US.  I am quite sure it is a comfort seat that has had a new cover made and it isn't made well at all.

Not sure this is relevant but do you know your coils are uncovered in the pic?

Well noticed! That's because I took pictures of the coils too - I was in contact with a few BMW specialists from the UK, sent them pics of my coils trying to find out are they original K 100's - or maybe switched for K 1100's? I used to have black capped HT leads, and blue capped that I bought on eBay wouldn't fit: they attached to the coil too loose, like the blue caps were slightly wider than black ones. Even wrapping the part of coil a few times with duct tape, where caps attach, did not help - they attached OK, but engine kept backfiring.

Did get the information you needed about the coils?

Yep, seem to be the original ones. Maybe blue caps on that set of leads lost elasticity from ageing.

I now ordered another coils and set of HT leads through eBay

Most of the original dark gray ones have died by now and the black with an orange tower are the way to go.

Well a buddy from Croatia who's a magician for BMWs sent me last summer some black coils, but holes for screws to attach them to the engine block did not exactly fit those on my bike. That's why I looked now on eBay for those looking exactly like mine

EME is the best place I have found to get that sort of gear. Still expensive but what nowdays isn't expensive.

Huh, yes, but shipping from the USA... And the chief trouble with US sellers: many refuse to use United States Postal Service, but insist instead on moronic courier/express companies such as UPS, TNT, DHL etc. What's wrong with the good ol' post???

I order most of the stuff I need from UK, Motorworks (used, if they have it in stock - with 6 months warranty), Motobins or James Sherlock. Or, a few German comparable shops. Shipping within Europe is much cheaper than overseas, even if my country is still not an EU-member

Much the same here and of course they want to send it the fastest way possible so it is really expensive.
I asked several to send some big items surface mail and they just refused.

Allegedly, there are new International Postal Union rules (or whatever is that organization called) how all registered post / "signed for" may from January 1st 2014 be sent only by airmail - surface mail remains just for unregistered shipments...

It looks to me that as the parcel trade has increased so do the postage rates but if the parcels double the postage rate triples.

Oh Awesome. Nice to see what what an original one looks like then.
