Hi everybody on this forum. Just passed my full bike test on the 29th August 2014. Used to drive various motorbikes up until they changed the law which allowed us to drive up to 250cc on full car licence. I had always had ambitions to get my licence but, what with family and other commitments, it never happened. Now living on my own, I decided it was time to get back on the road, so took the plunge and passed second time (failed first time for silly things).

I did a lot of research on forums and other sites before deciding that a shaft driven bike was for me, so ended up with my 1993 K100LT (which I'm loving - already done over 1000 miles in under two weeks).

Found this forum and already gained a lot of tips and advice which I'll be implementing in the next few days.

I just decided to add the following comment based on having just read the forum rules "I wish all forums / social sites, had rules like this - in fact, the world would be a better place if these principals were adhered to in every-day life"

Congratulations on your test! Somewhat similar here with renewing my licence a couple years ago albeit different reason (my original bike licence was taken for speeding when I was 18).

Good company and loads of info here. Enjoy it!

Come on in. There's probably a haggis hiding in the corner somewhere - you know, one of the species that can only run one way round the mountain.

lol, thanks for the welcome. I think that must be a BMW haggis you're describing, especially if it's me riding it - still trying to master tight corners with my big beemer without falling over 😆

Welcome from over here too.

Guess an occasional foray across to Norn Iron will be on the cards. Worth it, Comberjohn has a knack of arranging good weather when anyone visits and there are roads that seem to be known only to him.

Thanks Mike. Actually, my first maiden voyage (so to speak) was from Hexham (where I bought the bike) back the 137 miles to my home in Fife, via my son's home near Glasgow (I HAD to show off my new BM). One day I plan to take a trip south, hopefully before the weather breaks.

Welcome to the forum, I too passed my open test this year, found a  88 K100RS  hardly run in and having a ball in the sunshine. You will have great pleasure from your bike, loads of torque, just what you want in the twisty roads. I would suggest reading  A twist of the wrist, by Keith Code, very good read.
Cheers
