Welcome to Ireland and to the Forum, saw your post on biker.ie and wanted to invite you over here from the madhouse over there (great site and lots of helpful and knowledgeable people tough), but of course Olaf beat me to it.

Well if there ever is a trip to Poland that passes through Vienna I won't miss it.

From what I have experienced until now I have to say - I feel I am in good hands!

Sagi, my thoughts exactly. I have been actually banned from that forum (put to further verification) after posting my first post... Well... Good that I had a place to go Smile

Ahoy there Trapper!

Why on mother Earth should I buy a Yamaha??? Very Happy

No worries about that. Although I may buy another bike with time but for now I plan to make a couple of thousand miles on this one.

See you on the road!

Eh, Magda, I think Trapper might be afraid you take the path of Becky.

Becky is in Blackpool and has done 50,000 miles on a K100LT affectionately named Bikey. However she was rear ended last summer and poor Bikey is now informally and temporarily retired due to worn out clutch. She acquired an FJR to ride while this is being sorted. Becky has also promised a trip over here with her other half, Snod Blatter [Jack] who is also on the forum and has a few bikes. They like long trips too so we hope to see them over here next summer.

Trapper [Alyn] is a true gentleman. [as are all K owners, just he has more Ks than a few of us].

Welcome Jedi,  be you girl or Gril, may the force be with you.

Hey come to think of it if we had a Force powered Grill Olaf wouldn't have to pack charcoal on a camping trip!!!

A K100 of any kind is a brave move for a first bike, the LT/RT being the heaviest model. I see someone has already chipped in the advice to pick your landing spot carefully. Be careful on uneven ground, even a sloping forecourt because, especially leaning away from you it doesn't go far before you loose the balance point and it's too heavy to haul back. Don't worry we've all done this and anyone who says they haven't is a liar. Engine bars are a good investment, they will protect the fairing. Use you tube to learn how to pick it up without damaging your back. That'll scare the boys when they see you pick up a 300kg motorcycle (we won't tell them it's all technique!)

I'm based in North Wexford at the bottom end of the Wicklow mountains so if you fancy a mountain spin I will happily meet for a ride out and a tour of the wicklow mountains. There are some cracking roads down the west side and then runs up through the valleys to Glendalough. If not you might make it out to the Eccentrics Christmas Brunch.

Enjoy the forum and stay safe.

Will

Will,

Thank you for the words of advise, I will definitely need it.

I am thinking of attaching the engine bars as I am convinced sooner or later the engine will touch the ground.

The heaviest motorbike I've ever lifted was a Suzuki SV 650 which is some 70 kg lighter than my flying brick Smile

It is good to hear you live so close!! I don't think that until 2 Dec I will even touch the motorbike (studying), but who knows.. In case I will be going for a ride I will keep you posted.

Take care and see you on the road (seems I have a new favourite phrase Very Happy )!

Magda

My addition of bold italic type to Will's post. True for me at least!

I wish I had seen the technique earlier. Would have been easier than the brute force method I had to use.  Embarassed

Engine bars seem to be hard to find here in Oz. Can't find them in the online catalogs either.

Magda,

Check out that front tyre on your K too. I had one of those on my K and it didn't like it in the cold or wet. Not sure if it was age related or not, I just got rid of it quick.

Lee Motorcycles in Cork is a Honda dealership but I got a new Bridgestone BT45 on mine a few weeks ago for €120, included taking wheel off and balancing.
