Hi All,
I am new to the K club... Just took ownership of her over the weekend. Everything has been done on the bike so she is running sweet except for a leak in the rear shock.

There are quite a few expensive options out there, so i am wondering if anyone has a spare sitting in the shed.... ?? Very Happy

Alternatively, anyone have any advise on which brand/aftermarket/BMW etc?

Ram make a good shock for a fair price (Realm Engineering). I have had a HyperPro made for my Paralever K. Steer clear of Australian-made Ikon, formerly Koni. Progressive are alright, too. Ohlins might cost you a bit, and YSS, for a Thai-made shock, are quite good.

RAM, definately. I have one and absolutely no complaints about it. If anyone does have an OEM shock lying around then it's lying around because it's most likely buggered. The problem with sorting out the rear suspension is that it's going to show up how poor the front is too. By the time I'd finished I was £400 lighter (RAM shock plus HyperPro progressive springs at the front) but the difference was incredible. Like someone had given me a new bike but with the old scratched paintwork on it.

As Dai says if there is a stock lying around its buggered. I changed mine last May because it was buggered and I just had a look at it to see would it do any good. Strut is rusted as well so no good. Even worse is the one I took off the spares bike last year does not now feel so good either. RAM would seem the way to go.

Curly,
I was talking to Ringfad today, as I am going up to Dublin to pick up two wheels from him.  He had given me a spare oem shock that he had lying around.  I swapped my one out for it.

He asked me if I had the original still lying around (he felt bad about your shock chucking it's guts).  I have it, and it's not leaking oil.

I am dropping it up to him on Saturday, and he will pass it on to you.

As I said, it's not leaking oil and the strut isn't rusty.  You are welcome to it, and will probably use it until/if you decide to go with a RAM.

I will eventually go with a RAM and possibly progressive springs, but that will have to wait for a while.  I've spent enough money and time and now just want to ride the thing for a while.  Probably get to it next winter.

Hi Corkboy,

That is very much appreciated. I would eventually change over to RAM as it has been recommended by pretty much everyone.

Its not a new bike and there will always be some faults here and there! Its part and parcel of it all! As Ringfad said, no better way in joining the club by getting some grease on your hands!

Thank you guys..... really appreciate it!
