What's that copper doing in my old engine oil? Imag0114

A person rode his K into the workshop with a story of leaving the engine oil fill plug off after changing his oil and riding the bike ten miles before discovering the missing plug. There wasn't a sign of oil anywhere on the bike. He said he added 3.5 quarts until he could see oil in the sight glass, and insisted we tear it down and see what might have happened. There was the ever-so-slight sound of rod knock at just above idle.

He can have his story. The right hand side engine cover was removed after draining the new oil. This is the result of riding with no oil in your engine.

There was the ever-so-slight sound of rod knock at just above idle.  It was rattling like 2 skeletons having a f^#k in a bucket. Me thinks a touch over 10 miles.  Even the drive gear looks very "polished".

There's a warning in that story for those of us that are beginning to find the memory a little challenging (thinking now of Dai's recent post 🤡) and how easy it might be to do something like that.

BTW TWB... I've notice of late your always excellent and welcomed photos are slightly misty/hazey like you got last weeks lunch smeered over part of the lens. It might need a wipe on the old shirt tail mate Laughing

Now he says it was an hour-long ride, but "loves the bike, intends to keep it forever", and is willing to pay $11,000 for the last long block left in Germany if he has to.

The piccies are from my four month old HTC Android, no smear on the lens. Just a little fond hazy love for the Mighty K's!

Picking on someone? On this forum? Olaf must be mistaken. Thinking of some other forum, I'm sure.

Guess it must be an old police bike....and the rider was an undercover officer.
