Hi, The K 100 I am looking at in NZ has been sitting for a year, when the owner tried to fire it up it cranked but wouldn't fire, he figures it has a failed fuel pump (wouldn't run on the bench but I don't know it was open circuit or just stalled), my Bro will go have a look and see if he can get it going.

Just in case the pump is toast is there a cross reference to an automotive substitute?
I don't think they have the equivalent of NAPA in Kiwi Land
I'm thinking we can pick one up at an auto wrecker.

This is timely as the fuel pump in the RS crapped itself on the way home on Tuesday.

Only problem is that it requires one of them "pillow" filters on the inlet.  As it is 10mm they are a bit hard to find.  I scrounged one from a friend as usually they come with the pump.  The filters at EME are a larger size.

One mo' thing...

Can you take the pump out and then disconnect the electrical wires or is it an "in-tank" job?

I really don't want to undo small bits inside the tank with my fat hands!

Stand down everyone, I have found the answer to my question.

You can remove the pump and then disconnect the wires.

I have had 2 used good pumps start leaking (as in lots of the stuff) after they were sitting for a while. Once the rubber seal around the top is out of contact with the fuel it shrinks and as soon as it is started fuel pours out the top of the pump. I carry a spare pump but a new one that has never had contact with fuel.  I do think that age has a big bearing on the shrinking O-ring.
