Hi Everyone,

I just picked up my first BMW motorcycle, a 1985 K100 off of craigslist in Upstate NY for cheap.  Ends up the guy I bought it from got it for free and got it running again and says he put 10k on the bike so for him Im sure he at least got his money back in parts and time.  It also came with  a pilcher fairing that needs some work to say the least.  Its also bright yellow!  (Its not dakar yellow) and a nice corbin seat with yellow piping Sad  It looks like I have to change the water pump seals, haven't gone into the splines yet but from what Ive read the 85's have less splines and are hence thicker and can stand up to a little more neglect.  With that said Im told its a well taken care of bike but there is only one way to find out.

Anywho…  I also have 2 Honda 1971 CB500's and a 1971 CB350 oh and a 71 cb500 parts bike…  For some reason all those 71 Hondas found me.  One of which is a cafe racer project.  (Don't worry this K bike is not being hacked apart and isn't being cafe'd out)   I also have a MGB (car) and have a lot of experience working on them.

I look forward to all the info I will gain in this forum as I have from the Honda and MGB forums throughout the years.  Im having a bit of trouble finding a good place to buy perishable parts and a good shop manual.  The bike came with a Haynes manual but in my opinion is a little lacking.  I have a great shop manual for my Honda's and am on the hunt for something similar for my K bike.

As soon as I got the bike home and took it for a ride around the block I fell in love with it.  I just love riding it for some reason…  Maybe it fits me better than the CB500's, maybe I like how solid it feels, maybe its the 1000cc's of smooth power but I kind of fell in love already, but sooooooo much bigger and top heavy!

Regards,

James

Welcome James,

Plenty of information to get you knowledgeable about your new bike on the portal page - or use the search function to address specific issues. Seems to be a rash of yellow bikes appearing on the forum of late - perhaps some new strain of the KPox leading to global Kontagion? Recent outbreaks in USA, UK and Australia....

Plenty of places to buy spares - UK dealers like James Sherlock, Motobins and Motorworks all do international shipping and generally have a reasonable stock of new and used parts and with the weak £ perhaps a good time to buy tax free (alright for some!). Always lots of bits on fleabay too...

Any way enjoy.

I have a similar history of vehicle ownership - Hondas and MGBs.

I imagine it's too icy for all year round riding in Long Island but you'll be well sorted for spring.

Welcome.
