rear parking light and head lights are going on.  Just the rear running light out.  Fuse seems solid.  No indication from the bmu.  Idea

My bike has two bulbs under the rear red lens. One we up here in the wilds of Vermont call a taillight and the other is called a brake light. Are either of those what you are discussing? Have you looked at the bulb to see if its filament is damaged, its socket contacts corroded or its socket connectors have loosened?

Does the front park lamp function? ...if not check fuse #2.

front parking light works.  Rear parking light works;  back taillight{running light} does not.

Take off the rear light and have a look at the connector block behind it. I had issues with that on the RT caused a similar problem. The bulb holder can also cause trouble.

It is odd in that the running light is the same as the parking light bulb; which works.  Fuse is good.

Check the fuse with a meter they often go open circuit without actually blowing. Corrosion inside the plastic part is the problem, it's a good idea to replace all the fuses with bikes this old.

Rear bulb for running light and the brake light go to the same wiring block behind the rear number plate. Either power or earth is an issue there? I have had same problem and that's where mine was. Check the connectors very carefully.

If the front parking light goes out when you turn the headlamp on....you need
to dismantle and clean the ignition switch.
Plenty of links for this inside this forum.....use the search function at the portal.

Before dismantling check if you have power at the grey/blue wire in the ignition
switch connector when the headlight is turned on...if no power, the problem is
elsewhere in the wiring system.

will start the process to clean it.  Many thanks.  Turns out there is no power to blue grey wire with headlight on.  Did disassemble and clean switch.  Switched relays for starting circuit{ drops voltage to lights during start up}.  Still no parking light with head light...
