Viper VP-600.  $37 shipped on ebay.  Amazon has it for the same price but with shipping and sales tax.

Has good reviews on Amazon.  We'll see how long it lasts.  At $37 it's not much of a risk.

Go read the front of it. With typos like that, I wouldn't trust the product any further than I could throw it.

No cranking current listed, but at 600 watts it won't be much over 50 Amps.  Not enough to make me feel good about starting a brick engine on a cold morning.

I currently have nine K bikes.  If I can save $70 per battery that'll leave me with enough to buy another fixer-upper. Laughing

Or, buy two and have a spare. I do that with the Chinese-made starters for Oilheads. I get them in hand for less than US$60 (OEM is over $500) and keep one on the shelf for the eventual failure, or for friends in need. With some irony I note the most recent 'rubbish' starter I bought has lasted four years... It was a daily commuter from home to Seattle and back each work day, went to Alaska, rode the US west coast, etc. Sometimes you get lucky. Or their quality has improved that much, which they're gunna need for world domination.

My theory is that the Chinese, similar to the Japanese in the 70s, have learned that manufacturing quality is a good investment.  Their scoots seem to have improved over the years. In 2030 the 1%ers will all be driving exotic electric luxury cars from China. Laughing

I'm not sure I buy that. Because I specialise in rewiring motorcycles, I used to buy relays in bulk from China and accepted up to a 10% failure rate because of the price differential in buying branded relays. Then on one batch of 12 relays I got a 100% failure rate and all of them with the same problem; pin 87 internally shorted across pin 85. No more relays from China...

I have a suspicion that a lot of the cheap unbranded stuff from China has failed its QA and gone out the back door. The branded stuff has passed the QA and then been marked with the buyer's name e.g. Durite. I see that Hella relays state 'Made in the USA' but so do Harleys and the parts for those come from almost anywhere except the USA. The problem with the 'made in' statement is specifying just what it means. If I have a relay coil made in China and a plastic relay case made in Mexico and I assemble the two together in the USA, it becomes 'Made in the USA'. Somewhat misleading, I think...

Just my 2C-worth of rambling.

"I have a suspicion that a lot of the cheap unbranded stuff from China has failed its QA and gone out the back door."
Exactly and when the seller gets a bad name they change names and start again.
Unbranded GPS units are everywhere and that is the story behind them.

I've been running a Fodsport Chinese GPS since March 2016. This was a replacement for an Aldi Go Cruise(Chinese) that was about 6 years old at the time that it committed suicide by launching itself off the bike. My fault as I failed to secure the extra lock feature. The only problem with the Fodsport occurred when the power supply failed shortly after purchase. The vendor failed to answer two queries on the supply failure.

It  has heaps of extra features calendar, unit convertor, calculator, trip monitor, fuel consumption monitor, music player, picture viewer, sunrise & sunset, clothing sizes, Ebook, video viewer, photo viewer, and five games. How you are supposed to read a book, play games and view videos while riding has got me beat, maybe the Chinese are better at multi tasking. It does not have speed, red light camera warnings or traffic updates.

It transmits to my FM radio or it can also use Blue tooth  As yet I have not tried to update the maps as they have not failed to get me to my destination.  It has also survived Qld tropical downpours. However at around $100.00 when it gets to 4 years old I might just replace it.
Regards Martin.

The seller I puirchased from has been around since 2006 with 99.5% feedback on sales of 290,000 items so I figure the 1 year warranty that comes with the battery will stand up.

I also bought the warranty that adds 2 years so I get at least three years of battery for $42.

I'm good with that. Cool

You got me curious so I just went to the garage and took it out of the box.

Dimensionally it's the same as a PC680 so it will fit.

Checked the voltage and it reads 12.95V after sitting almost a year which is a good sign.

A few years back I purchased a cheap battery (from Viet Nam, IIRC).  About three months later, while on tour in Arizona, the battery went tits-up.  It was a Friday afternoon and we were miles and miles from anything resembling a city.  The motorcycle was hauled on a trailer to Albuquerque, New Mexico.  When the resultant expenses for food, travel and lodging are considered, that battery was anything but cheap.
Last week I bought a MotoBatt. It cost me $125.  I'll wager it will be a bargain.

Bikes with fuel injection systems typically need electricity available to start so a dead battery won't allow a bump start.

Just guessing the old K's are the same.

Shite is almost yellow, after all.

We hear a fair bit about 'LFB', but I for one have never seen an acronym breakdown on that.

I've "blacked out" orange Odyssey batteries before. (Wrapped in black duct tape.)

Duck, you make me laugh. You will buy a cheap battery to save the cost of half a tank of fuel, and end up with a cheap battery.
In the next breath you waste twice the cost of a decent battery on having stuff ceramic coated, that will look really good when your cheap battery has let you down in the middle of nowhere.  Very Happy

That battery costs well over two tanks of gas. It costs about $15 to fill up an empty tank where I live.

And there's no guarantee that that battery will fail.

(But I do have an addiction problem with the ceramic coating. Laughing)

Low Flying Brick. There's a few short steep humps in the roads around here where it's possible to get a flying brick completely off the deck at a not too ridiculous speed. The most fun one has a last-second curved approach Very Happy

Ah, now I've twigged to it. Reminds me of back in my high school days, riding my Z400 Kwacka home, there was an aged hardwood tree which had pressed its large and many roots out under the tarmac from its base in the roadside ditch. It happened to be at the top of a rise where the sealed road narrowed and veered, turning slightly right into a blind spot. A perfect recipe for a teenager to get airborne if done at the right angle and with enough velocity.

The trick was to get as close to the edge as possible for the best launch, usually at 35 mph or so, and time the landing with subtle use of throttle for rear wheel spin, and body language. Each day I praticed towards perfection. That last time I tried it a copper was patrolling from the other way. I can still see the look of shock and surprise on his face from my lofty height as I passed him three feet off the road surface.

He gave chase, but that's another story.
