There's probably a way to test it before ordering a new one.

On some cars you could spray them with water and it would suddenly be problem solved, but your case is so short timed it might make no difference.

Typically a bike dieing when it gets warmed up is a sign of the HES going bad.

Take some  cool water with you and throw that on the HES cover to see if that makes it start again.

Another thing you can do to test is remove the HES cover (try to do it carefully so as not to tear the gasket) then use a heat gun on the HES to see if it will cause the bike to die.

Another possible issue is the gas tank connector being flaky - causing the fuel pump to run intermittently.

Or a flaky ignition switch.

thanks duck ,i can run the bike on the stand for over an hour rad fan running flat out ,and the engine NEVER misses a beat, only fails over 3000 rpm when being ridden, cuts out and back in in a second stop at rd side and rev 5/6000 no problem  Embarassed Embarassed ,set off again ride hard problem back again  Evil or Very Mad I will however try the hot air/dryer idea,Wish me luck as i try to protect my pocket lol!

I'd avoid running it for an hour on the stand,  it wasn't designed for that.

Yes. The owner's manual recommends starting it and riding off.  Lots of idling also tends to foul spark plugs, especially on K75s.

True, now here is the thing in heavy traffic on a hot day high temp light comes on until out of traffic ,AND still no fault,Fault only o cures at speed over 70/80 mph plus,I haven't had this problem  myself,my friend Jim has the problem when he rides the bike, over  the last few months i noticed today when he got back that he uses the kill switch to stop the engine .Something i never do,when asked his reply was ,i always use it.Now bearing in mind the age of the bike and in over 20 the kill switch has not been used, couldit be a simple case of sticking switch ,
with a bit of vibration at high speed,We live in hope of easy fix Shocked

While the engine idles for an hour with a coolant system in good condition, my experience indicates that the fan should run intermittently, not flat out.

Consider reviewing the condition of your moto's radiator, pressure cap, coolant, coolant temperature sensor, temperature sensing switch, fan and fan wiring. On a moto with a cooling system in good condition, the high temp light should not be activated in heavy traffic on a hot day; instead, the fan should run more often and for longer intervals keeping the engine at appropriate operating temperature.

Intermittent cut-out can be a symptom of defective electrical connections other than Hall sensors. Inspecting and testing Hall sensors is good practice when a fully warmed engine cuts out and can be restarted after cool-down but your moto seems to have problems with its cooling system beyond their condition.

+1 what Laitch says
Also,  it doesn't cut out at high temperatures if your riding but does for the other guy.  So it's not a temperature related problem so much.  Probably the kill switch wants a good clean.

Ask him for more detail so you can repeat it.

Could it be he is not used to the feeling of fuel cutting out on deceleration, then instinctively he accelerates to compensate? That might explain the one second duration. Throttle position sensor adjusted?

First place I would be looking would be the connection to the tank then the ignition switch and I would give odds on that you find the fault.

From the symptoms it suggests some consistency between high revs/cutting out and low revs/ok. If you are certain that is what is happening, and the consistency is strong, then I'd add a suggestion that you could have a blocked fuel filter. Happened to me.

I wouldn't have described it as fully 'cutting out' though; more like a horrible rev limiter - coughing and missing and dying and not revving past four or five thousand or so. Ran fine at lower revs.

BTW whereabouts in West Yorksher are you - I am a spit from M1 J36 and I have a spare Hall sensor, available on Sundays too...!

My 84 did that sometimes.....electrical plug on front left of the gas tank was an issue, adjusted the pins.

Then it started happening again.....lose plug on the injection unit under the seat.

Hall sensors fail don't normally give an instant restart.

Temp sensor on 2v does not have a cut out function, it only has a start inhibit function if over heated. If your fan is working ok it should kick in so the temp light does not come on.

If he is not aware that with your brick,  the fuel cuts out on deceleration, it's probably OK to let him ride it.  Some people are easily offended if baned from a bike, on the other hand, it's hard to break a brick.  bounce
