Hi All,

Can a variation on the OEM starter relay be used successfully? 

There seems to be a number of starter relays on eBay that look similar but have various part numbers.

Example are #0 332 002 161  &  0 332 002 168 

All are 12v/75 Amp with identical terminals, made in Portugal or Malaysia.

There is a diode across the coil of the OEM relay, it needs to be there to prevent a voltage spike when the relay releases. The spike can damage some of the delicate electronic components in other equipment. Some of the aftermarket relays don't have the diode so be careful to choose correctly and don't let the seller tell you otherwise.

61 31 1 459 008 is the starter relay's OEM part number, for reference or cross reference purposes. It fits all K75, K100, K1100 & K1.

Some members have added the diode to ones lacking one. I picked up a spare Bosch relay from  Ebay for $39.95 with a $10.00 off voucher. https://www.ebay.com.au/usr/sparesbox_auto?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 I've yet to confirm whether it's correct, so I've included a schematic somebody on the forum will confirm either way.
