Hi
I noticed my 1983 k100 doesn’t have the u shaped foam? Gasket which is located under the petrol tank.
I decided to purchase and install one today. Unfortunately the petrol tank is a much tighter fit on the frame and it is difficult to push the tank forward like I used to.
Did all k100 motorcycles have the foam u shaped gasket?

Thanks

Gabriel

AFAIK, yes. Wriggle the bugger - it goes in eventually. Just make sure the foam piece is properly seated behing the coolant filler cap.

Should your tank have the insolation heat pads fitted it will be very tight
doublesided carpet tape is good to hold it in place and a tie wrap on both ends.
silicon spray on the rubber helps as well Very Happy

Hi

Is it possible for anyone to post a photo of the foam gasket installed?
Thanks

Gabriel

My 1984 naked K100 didn't have one when I bought it in '87. I thought that the heat control was only needed on faired models. Pretty sure about that.

Chris is right. If yours is a naked bike and it has the heatshield under the tank, you can peel it off with no adverse running effects. Otherwise, see this and ignore the burnt bits:
