I've sent a tank away to be painted for the outfit from which I have removed the heat insulation from the underside. It would be nice to fit some new material when I get the tank back, so, any advice or suggestions for a supplier?

Paul.

Thanks Inge,

Maybe I should iron the old panels.

Alternative insulation seems to only come in 20 metre lengths....Petrol tank insulation. 61740

The 'new' rig has some panels fitted on the side of the engine to keep the heat going to your legs. This is a great feature, but.... in order to escape, the heat tries to raise and the thank becomes very hot. I may have to remove these heat shields.
Originally I was thinking about molding them and offering to make them for the forum's members. Now, I don't think this is a good idea.
I am more inclined to build a scoop (or snorkel) between the rig and the bike to force cool air to the engine.

Yet another winter project Very Happy

As you can see I've already added the badges, but I'll do the insulation at my leisure over the winter and fit the tank during the spring cleaning session.

Paul.

Hi there, had the same problem here, talk to a guy who works on air conditioning and he allowed me access to his scrap room.
Found enough material to fold the whole bike, free.
Best regards
JAP

BMW still sells the original insulation. What is the problem?

Fitted the Dynamat today, I reckon it's better than the original stuff, easy to mould around the curves and sticks well.

That looks good Paul. My insulation has let go at the roots so I think I'll get me some of that for the next time the tank's off - could you stick up a link to the supplier, can't seem to find one on these shores. Super paint job BTW, hope it wasn't too £££.

88, It was a bit £££, but if I spend a few pounds on my Ks, it's still cheaper than depreciation on a new bike.

And as Dream Machine painted the original tank in 1988, I suppose dividing the cost over 25 years makes it quite cheap per year........Well you can justify anything if you want to.cheers
