Hi there !
Long time no see...
As we retired to beautiful Southern HUNGARY my insurance broker asked me for engine number.
I looked for it without finding it. Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

There is a smooth vertical smooth panel below the engine oil filler cap. Its engraved into it. The first set of 4 digits is the date eg 3285 is week 32 of 1985. The last 4 digits are the number.

we know you meant the second set of 4 digits is the week and year 
the first 4 digits are the type of engine
