Aha, I think I might be able to sneak a non-bmw query past the mods.....on a ridiculous pretext!

Maybe a question for Dai and Dai alone,  but just supposing you wanted to to replace the bearing fitted inside the rear sprocket/brake drum on a Enfield Bullet 500, would you consider using one of your spare 25x47x12 bearings from your stock of K100 fronts? Is it the same bearing?

See, it's a K-series query!

You know what? I think Stu can answer that one better Very Happy You said the magic words 'brake drum'. Mine's got discs all round but Stu's a drummer boy.

Ha! If you'd started the thread in the General Discussion or Off Topic sections no one would've been the wiser, or have given it a care. Otherwise, I reckon a whole heap of us have 'other' brands in our garage or shed that we are just cryin' to talk about here.

Chris,
The oem item on mine is
5/8 x 1.9/16 x 7/16"
so doesn’t look like a match. That said, mine is a ‘54 350cc. Hitchcocks has a decent interactive parts manual which may say different for yours.
Stu

Cheers Stu. I really appreciate your help.
The bike (generous term, it's a few boxes of bits plus some ambition) is one of the 1970s Enfield exports that appeared from a time warp back on the UK market. Plus, it's not mine - a friend asked me to look at a replacement pattern rear hub that arrived from Indian India.
I thought (wrongly, happens often) that I'd be looking for an imperial bearing. Turns out it's metric. Second mistake; it measures at 25x47x12, and this seemed a familiar size to me, which it was, but only because I've been in the habit of fitting front wheels from a oilhead boxer onto KTM forks, for some reason.
Total wild goose chase, plus early onset dementia on my part. Dragged the forum down again. Can only apologise.  Front wheel bearing query 610153

Chris, No apols needed, gotta keep all this old kit going or lose it forever. That said, as a UK vintage owner, the 70s is quite a rabbit hole where the Indian models are concerned. Theoretically they were using the 1960 engine patterns and tools with metric bearings. I’m not so sure about the cycle parts. Good luck.

Been watching youtube videos of guys fixing these things with the most rudimentary tools, puts me to shame. Love the pattern parts industry too - even though the quality might be varied, the low cost means that these things can expect to keep running for ever which is brilliant given that they are essential transport for a sub-continent.
I think the guy who gave me the rear hub to look at, knew that this bit had fallen apart:

But a bit of brass later...

Question for Stu (not Disc Brake Dai): do the originals have O-ring or seals in there - seems like monsoon season would wash away the grease/eucalyptus oil on the cam?

You do NOT want to go riding in the monsoon...

One day of it was enough.

Chris, I don’t believe there are seals. Maintenance regime is to grease the cams.
