Hi folks,

I've got an '89 K100RS2V monolever, but have swapped out for a K1100 (paralever) torque arm and final drive due to my driveshaft and final drive splines being knackered.
I'm running the standard K100 Y spoke wheels and find that the rear wheel doesn't sit centrally and is offset towards the swing arm.
Does anyone know enough about the different offsets to let me know what size spacer I would need to get it to sit centrally?
Thanks

Why not swap for a K100LT 17 inch rear wheel. It will be 3 spoke and takes the same size tyre as you already have but have the correct offset for the Paralever.

You could also use the 18 inch K1100RS wheel but you will need to swap the centre stand for the K100 16v or K1100 type.

That leaves you with needing to consider a 3 spoke front wheel....a K75 3 spoke front wheel should fit but they are hens teeth.

The figure BMW allows for maximum offset is in the red box. Included is a formula to derive the offset. The gizmo on the right side of the illustration is BMW's measuring gauge, as a reference. Nobody I know has one.

From BMW's K1100 shop manual

I would like to keep the snowflake wheels for aesthetic purposes, I just prefer the look of them over the 3 spoke versions. Plus as you say, I'd then need to try to find a matching front wheel as well.

The offset is about 15mm

Problem could be finding wheel bolts long enough to accomodate spacer and wheel

But not imposible

K75C wheel only.

Dai, I have a question for you on this. I have a matching pair of K75 3 spoke wheels. As you mention the K75c does this mean there are two types of K75 3 spoke wheel or only one type?

My plan is to paint these wheels for my 1984 K100 Sprint which I am aware started life as a naked K100. Since it only got new tyres last September they will be on it for another 2 or 3 months and at that point I want to fit the 'new' wheels.

Snowflake wheels were used only on Airheads. Y Spoke wheels were used on some model later Airheads (Monolever) and early K bikes. When you see them side by side it is obvious why the name difference, easily confused.

I'm pretty sure it was TWB that pointed out that the K75C wheel was the only drop-fit replacement for the K100. Other K75 wheels required machining spacers/spindles/somethingorother.

Having played round with various K bike Y spoke and three spoke wheels over the years, I've always managed to locate one that worked for what I needed it for, but I'm not certain it was me who pointed out proper alignment...as you say.

If we are talking specifically about K75C wheels, just be sure you do not want the 18" rear with drum brake capability only, otherwise it's a 17" rear disc type, as far as my extensive cataloguing suggests for all markets*. Unless we are talking about the later models, which came with three spokers, and are 17" for rear disc brakes. Some basic K75 also used a rear drum 18" wheel.

*BMW parts catalogues are notoriously incorrect, attempting to cover too many bikes and overlapping or omitting useful information.
