Hi

I want to replace the vacuum hose which attaches from the throttle bodies to the for...size quoted is 3.3*1.75 approx 25 cm length.

I contacted Bmw Southbank in Melbourne and they confirmed that size is no longer available. I think the current version is 3.4*1.8..
I asked the inevitable question...how much?
I was quoted $65.00:silent:
Must have been gold plated!!!! After a quick recovery from heart palpitations I left..Can anyone recommend a business where I can purchase vacuum hose at a reasonable price?
Thanks
Gabriel

almost any where Gabriel

cheap as chips

there is no really critical factors involved with this line as it only connects between the barb of the throttle body and the regulator

hope fully you still have the stainless spring which covers the line still , which can be reused with the new rubber bit .

good luck

The OE vacuum hose is 3.5 x 1.8 (OD x ID), part number 11 72 7 545 323 and is US$16.03 per metre.

I rang BMW Melbourne once ages ago asking after an Airhead rear caliper repair kit, was told $65 with a two to three week wait. Instead I bought it from a US dealership, $32 all up, delivered to OZ.

Reckon $65 is their favourite number!?

Super Cheap and their ilk will have basic vacuum hose as Chazza says, cheap as chips.

Thanks for the replies.
I've often been tempted to purchase parts from the U.S. Postage seems to be the killer..
Can you recommend a business?
That would be helpful.
I purchased four gasket rings and the hex nuts for the exhaust from Bmw Southbank.
$40 later I'm Thinking..mm.there has to be a better way to buy parts!!!!
I usually order from Motobins.
Some of the prices quoted in the U.S. Are appealing!

Cheers

I think you'll be lucky to find generic 3.5mm vacuum hose. Smallest seems to be 3mm then 4mm and 6mm... etc. 4mm will probably be your best bet. The only reference I can quickly find relating to vacuum hose ID and nipple size is HERE where it says 4mm ID hose for a 5mm nipple. The K100 vacuum nipple measures a smidge under 5mm. I was in Repco a few weeks ago inquiring about hoses... they don't stock anything under 6mm. You could try SupaCheap Auto but I think you'll be lucky if they stock anything that small also.
There's plenty available cheap on Ebay and even coloured.

I think the BMW spec 3.5 x 1.8 refers to ID x wall thickness which will make it about 7mm OD

Re exhaust gaskets. I bought a set last year from Show'n'Go Motorcycles in adelaide for AU$24.

There is a company which stocks this size even mentions Bmw but I
Don't think they sell retail. I think the are called forsche.

Can't you ask your local BMW (car) dealer? All BMW dealers can order from the same system. Shouldn't be that expensive. Same system was used on some older UK cars, so look at cars where they used the same FPR (with the vacuum take-off).

I have used from SuperCheapAuto in Australia a Mackay brand (Australian company) hose. SCA have a hose section near cooling system parts. The hose is in a rectangular pack with a clear plastic outer. Very good quality - ID (Inside Diameter) is correct but OD (outside diameter) is slightly thicker meaning that you can't fit the protective spring over the outside of the tube, but the extra thickness seems to help the inside of the tube remain open at tight bends. If you are of a concours mind forget it because the hose colour is not pure black - it's got a slight olive green tone. But hey it works. The price is reasonable also.

It's the part labelled "Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum hose" in this picture.

Vacuum hose??? Tbsync14

You can clearly see the metal spring surrounding the hose.

That looks to be at the front of the airbox on no 1 and not no 4? If that is the case it goes to a vacuum sensor at the rear mounded beside the fuel pressure regulator. You can disconnect it and just use a vacuum cap in its place.

10-4

Spex got that cleared up for him, maybe, in another thread—this one.
