Hi, Well it finally happened - my mirror popped off on a ride this past weekend and was damaged so now I need to find a replacement (entire assembly). Would LOVE to find one already painted to my factory color blue (paint code 606) but realize that's likely a pipe dream and I'll have to get it painted. Anyone have one or know of a source other then the $300 one I see on ebay? I'm willing to buy a pair if needed and the price is decent. Thanks!

It would be a good idea to install a pair of mirror leashes so when it comes detached it just hangs on the leash, won't pull on the wires or fall to the ground. I usually bump into mine 2 or 3 times in my garage during the riding season. Go to a fishing tackle shop and get a couple of leaders.

@RS Rider

excellent advice and absolutely worth the money Cool  thank you, Sir

I had to do the same after one of my mirrors got bumped off for the third time by alien people too busy staring instead of braking

I have a left side one that is white, if you still need one.

How badly is it damaged? I have taken a few of them apart and cannibalised them to make good ones. As you found, they can be expensive.

I agree with Olaf that your mirror can be repaired as long as it wasn't run over by a truck.

The housing is just plastic, and my experience with repairing several of them indicates that it isn't too hard to repair.

Is the glass damaged?  If so, I think I have a spare one here.

As far as paint, most any shop that sells paint to the collision trade can match it if you bring in a part with the color you want.  If you can find a BASF paint dealer they may have the formula in their Glasurit paint line.  That is the paint the factory used.

For a small part like a mirror I use an inexpensive Badger Model 250 airbrush to put on the base coat, and then clear it with an automotive clear coat in a rattle can.  A wet sanding with 1000 and 2000 grit followed by a polish with 3M Perfect It #2 will get it looking good as new.

Appreciate the new posts for this older thread. I did find a used replacment mirror and had it painted to match and added tethers to both mirrors. To feel like I at least made an overall approval to the bike, I also had the upper fairing and other mirror painted at the same time so the bike looks even better - at least for awhile! Smile

Mirror leash options: Fishing wire traces come in various types - single wire, stranded wire, single wire with outer plastic protective coating, stranded wire with protective plastic coating. The protective plastic coated wire is less likely to cause damage due to vibration.
Another alternative is to use Dyneema (trade name) or braided fishing line - It is very strong, thin for its diameter, supple, copes well with sunlight and heat exposure and is not abrasive on painted surfaces.
 Another use for braided fishing line is to pull a new clutch or throttle cable into position when fitting. Very useful stuff in a home workshop snd not expensive. 40 to 100lb breaking strain is ideal.
