Hi everyone. I have been riding a Ninja and have decided to step up to better cruiser. I purchased a real cherry '85 K100RT. The bike was rarely ridden with only 15K miles. The bike is all there, never dropped or even scratched. Even the clock and the gauges work perfectly. My only concern is throwing my leg over the Corbin seat, and the height of the bike when seated, at rest. With the bike off the center stand, I am up on the balls of my feet. I read a lot of the posts here saying "just lean the bike over, you'll get used to it", or shave the seat, or raise up the forks in the triple trees and buy a shorter shock. My first question is in looking at the forks the top caps are barely poking out of the tops of the upper tree, but it looks like if I try to loosen the triple tree and slide the fork up, they will easily hit the bottom of the handlebar. Has anyone installed risers to raise the handlebars, thus making room to raise the forks? The second question is in lieu of spending $500+ on another new shorter reat shock, has anyone ever removed the spring from the stock shock and cut off 3/4 to 1 inch from the spring?

Welcome liketobike.

Thinking aloud here...wouldn't be easier (and more cost-efficient) to just reshape the seat so it is more comfortable rather than alter the handling dynamics of the bike?

Changing the fork height (and therefore the trail) and also shortening the rear shock may turn the bike into a pig to ride.

Other forumists while chime in soon.

Hi there. I'm new here as well and first off, I'm glad you say you wanted to go from a Ninja. I sort of looked at them.
Second, though new, I've been researching and looking at these bikes for a long time. The k100 I finally got does not have the modified seat (I'm nearly 6'4") so it's great for me where the cut down modified or low seat options might be good for you. I'm sure there are plenty of second hand seats around or places where you can get the seat costomised to fit you at not too great a cost. Good luck. Sounds like a mint bike. :-)
