I have a new onset of intermittent and now zero speedo after bump.
I've read some of the other threads.
I have continuity up to the instrument panel - yellow wire. Both yellow and brown are good thru the clip above the radiator reserve.
I want to take off the printed circuit board to check the connection there.
I'm referring to page 331 of the Clymers book - image #208 & 9.

In 208 Clymers shows a screw - fine.
I have a bunch of resisters next to this screw that's attached - these are not shown in fig 208.

My rear cover has a MotoMeter sticker with a number 1 459 544 616 036 2003 (Are the last four digits a year of manufacture date?) - which is going to be very forward thinking for a 1987 bike.

So back to image 208 - is this really one of the screws to remove the printed circuit or...

Not now OG - I was feeling a-lot out of my depth. I pushed the circuit board onto the main instruments and closed it up.
I just got back from a ride with a working speedo.

The idea that BMW wants me to start chopping bits out of that lot, as a work around to intermittent speedo problems left me cold.
That's a job for a professional.

Someone had been there before - looking at the screw wear.
The 'O' ring wasn't positioned correctly - so I remedied that and wrapped all with electrical tape - just as the service bulletin tells you to.

Glad to see that you're still with us!

I go near Palo Alto quite often - thank for that.
One thing that did come from getting the instrument panel off was that the rubber washers need to be replace - they were as hard as rock - which probably doesn't help.
I'm on my third tank of gas with the bike now and we are starting to understand each other a little better.
Aside from little temper tantrums like the speedo thing, I think we'll get on well together.

That's my next move.

If all else fails, get yourself a pushbike speedo/computer. Mine was $20 a few years ago. It runs off a magnet on the front wheel.You get a speedo, trip, time, highest speed, average speed etc. All the info you need, whilst you battle with the gremlins of the BMW instruments.

About multipin connector and internal instrument connections.

Since the answer in that thread was written I`ve also lost the connection between pin
and the conductive film due to corrosion at one of speedo connections.

Cured this by soldering between the pin and the conductive film.
Earlier I`ve soldered a thin wire (0,2 mm²) between respective pins, due to
to much corrosion or to thight place at the conductive film.

Another known cause for speedo failure is the three pin connector at the end of the conductive
film which is connected at the top/rear of the speedo.
I have a piece of rubberfoam on the rearside of this connector, to add a slight pressure to the connector.
(It was allready a factory mounted piece of foam at this spot, which was to weak).
