I changed the front fork seals on my 1989 K100rs. Looked in the Clymers manual for fork oil capacity to find more than one choice. So I tried the lower amount with Belray 10 wt that I had on the shelf. The problem is that oil is leaking past the new seals. Stopped by the BMW dealer to ask. They said that it is possible but did not know for sure that the oil could be different in each fork. Anyone know what amount of oil to use in these forks?

Ridefar,

I have the Clymer manual but a lot of bikes have had changes to the front end. Can you put up some photos? I did notice that for some versions the right and left are not identical.

It is very easy to damage the seal lip when reassembling those forks. This is most likely what has happened.
I am presuming yours is a 16valve model and so the forks will take 400ml if you have had the forks apart and drained them completly, which you will need to do to put new seals in.
It is possible that you got the wrong seals as Ks have 3 different sizes of fork leg 41mm, 41.3mm and 41.7mm the latter being yours.
I use 10weight oil in my 16v and it suits me but depending on your weight and riding style you may prefer a lighter grade
