Should my side stand be straight? The PO has put a block on the bottom of it and I removed it to see why. It seems to have a slight bend in it, is that normal?

Have a look at this this thread on the subject of side stand blocks - or "pucks" as some call them. Mine was very bad but before attaching the block I replaced the bush and bolt on the side stand mount. In the end I never needed the block.

some great options provided by all.You should be able to select from at least one of those.
My centrestand has broken and the sidestand as far as I know was bent on delivery when purchased a few years back.
So I have persevered in the meantime.
Constructed from steel C section with a rubber block inserted from below. It at least provides for a more upright position, and when pulling up in the entrance of my driveway it grips on the slope. I do however encounter less clearance on servo driveways and speed humps..
hopefully you don't resort to my crude attempt. It has been in place for a while, simple , but it works,
I much prefer the cheeseboard option.Looks a bit more professional.

Thanks guys, that will save me putting it in the vice and getting the blow torch out to remove the bend.

I bought a cheap plastic puck which fits on the sidestand and has a magnet in so that it sticks to the sidestand which I use when parking on grass which is a bit soft or where the sidestand is prone to burying itself and allowing a tip over. I have a string on mine which I tie to the handlebar and when I retract the sidestand with my heel I can haul in the puck and pop it into a plastic bag and pocket it before riding off (the magnet will not hold the puck on when the bike hits a bump I found). Downside is if you use a compass don't use it near the pocket with the magnetic puck in

Side stand is now as straight as an arrow. Took it off to fit a new bush which did not seem worn, put it in the vice, used a blowtorch and bent it straight. Now painted and fitted.

BTDT.... I ended up buying a new side stand only to find out there's a knick in a new one as well ;-)...

I recently posted that I had just rebushed and straightened after heating my side stand. It sits about right now but if you lower the adjustment on the rear tensioner to the soft position it does effect the lean. So before adding a block I suggest you put it to soft first.
