Hi, I wish I knew about this forum years ago. It's all a bit late now as my dear old 1987 K100TIC was written off quite a few years back (my neighbour

squished it up against a brick wall with their car). However, I still have a few odds and ends for the K lying around and they're taking up valuable garage real estate.

So basically I've joined the forum to reminisce about my K with other enthusiasts and to off load a few old parts.

cheers, Carolyn

Hi Carolyn welcome to the forum.
Why not go get another K bike and have some spares.

Oooh, I don't know if you really want to be offering me the use of your bike.

The last time I was offered a ride on a K was 4 months ago. An old mate of mine, who had owned his 1986 K100LT since new, ended up chucking it down the road, breaking 6 ribs and 4 fingers affraid before I could have a go. He's OK and back at work now. The K didn't make it Sad

Ah well at least it is still a BMW, yes we will talk to you. Once you own a BMW you find it hard to really consider any other brand, they get into your blood I think.
BTW like your avatar it is just down the road from my place.

oh dear, do you want my life story now?
My father bought me the K100 RT/TIC for my 21st birthday. Gee thanks Dad! Just what I wanted, an old man's bike lol!
It was less than 2 years old and had 20,000km on it (from memory). I ended up putting another 200,000km on it over the next 15 years. We went all over the country- Melbourne and Brisbane many times, Alice Springs and even Perth.

Since that fateful garage incident (see first post) I've owned a TDM850 and currently have a V-strom 650 (which should be going to its new home in Canberra soon). I pick up my 2010 R1200GS this weekend. It'll be nice to be back on a shaft-drive.

Actually, I think there is a starter switch block in amongst all the bits I have - but it's in about 100 parts. And most of those teeny, tiny springs are missing.

Yup, green button should be there. I dismantled the block to fix the indicator switch. WOW. Those springs flew everywhere when I took the last screw out. I ended up ditching the project and got a second hand block from the Silverwater wreckers.

Tiz often recommended here to take them apart inside a plastic bag. Saves hours on hands and knees.

I think you just set a few hearts a'flutter then.
Someone called Auntie doing work on her own bike!
The result is irrelevant to this lot. Having a go is the important part.
Then the rest of us chime in and say how they would have done it and most, you can guarantee would have involved a lot of lost springs.

LOL I did ALL the work on my K-series. It was a joy to work on. Everything was so logical and easy to get to. Not that she needed much work.
I think the worst thing I did to her was too many days at high speed out in the NT - luckily the universal joint failed close to Sydney and not 800km from Alice. It was an easy fix and I replaced the clutch at the same time. Well, it had been on the way out for 30,000km or so.
Here's hoping the R copes just as well.

A wonderful intro BB, good to hear from one of the original owners of a K here on the forum.
I'm sure there will be plenty of interest in your threads covering all those years of experience.
Like yourself there are many of us who wish a forum such as this was available sooner.
Definitely a place to share experiences , triumphs and moments of utter frustration, good part is it usually brings heads together with fantastic results.
Be nice to hear of a few more of your exploits and travels, it helps add character to both bike and rider.
btw welcome aboard , you will definitly enjoy your time here,
good luck with the new R.

Also out of interest , there is a proposed ride for March 16/17 Wollombi to Wisemans (or part thereof, for those who can make either destination).Putting it together to help newbies get acquainted with some of the seasoned members.

Welcome from the Northern Hemisphere Auntie BB.

Don't worry about the dark side lots of us have eyed R's lustfully. I would quite fancy stripping my K down and using and R/rt for the commute. Who knows - enjoy the forum, lots of knowledgeable people in your land.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome ❤
Especially when I had such an obvious ulterior motive - cleaning out my garage and spare room!

As I've mentioned, I had my K for a long time and clocked up a lot of k's on it, so I probably can still contribute some of my hard earned wisdom to the inmates on this forum.

Unfortunately I'm heading south on the weekend of 16/17 March, so I'll have to join you on the road another time.

cheers, Carolyn

Hi Carolyn and welcome too....

It seems strange that someone can go away from a K...They are rather addictive and definitely have a personality. Seems they attract rather nice people. You need to have a K for a project bike.....

She don't like Arlo. I guess it stems from me playing Alice's Restaraunt over and over again as a young hippy :flower: :flower:

Are you suggesting Larrikin's mum is the birthday present or he takes her to the show as her birthday present?

I guess if you took her as the present and Arlo liked her, then would she be wrapped, would Arlo be wrapped or would Larrikin be wrapped? Who was the present again?

Another nice thread. Another train wreck. How do you guys get so far off track?

Hard to answer that without offending either Larrikins mum or Arlo Guthrie...so suffice to say I am sure they would enjoy each others company!!

Bring your mum, because if anything happens her you will regret it. Anyway you might be very surprised as to how she would take it.

My son wanted to see Biffy Clyro. They were playing support to the Who. He packaged it up as a birthday present for me to see the Who and Biffy Clyro as he knew I liked them too. Of course I saw straight through it and said "what you really mean is you and your friends want to go to see Biffy Clyro and you want me to drive up to the concert and organise the hotel". He smiled at me and said......yes. So we did it. He got the concert tickets and we all had a great time.

My son and his friends went backstage before the Who and spent their time with Biffy Clyro, emerging with VIP passes for another of their concerts. Me: I was left right up under the stage as close as I could get to Baba O'Riley, Blue Eyes, Wont Get Fooled Again and lots more.

It might seme strange, but let your mum into your life, you will never regret it.

After seeing your bike Auntie I was reminded of my own purchase. It has always lived in the hills so maybe we passed each other a long time back.
This is mine when I got her in 1995.
Cost me $6000 and had about 40,000km.

I don't have many digital pics of my bike, I'll have to dig out the old albums & scan some photos.
Yes, that's right young'uns, back in my day we had film cameras and had to get a professional to print the photos Noob intro - Parramatta, Australia Gerg

Those were the days. we were allowed to blow out birthday cadles, play in the mud, climb trees.
And if we misbehaved we copped a clip in the ear. It was call discipline. Now if you did it you'd end up in Jail.
