Hi , I'm Dale S from Tulsa Oklahoma. This is my First Bmw K bike (100LT)
Years ago I rode a Norton Commando, I'm just now getting back to riding
again. The "K" is pretty good mechanically but needs some TLC to bring it up to A-1 condition. I'm looking forward to the "journey".

Norton Commando was a good pedigree...when you can post up some photos of the bike....and the LT while you are at it. Its a good long distance runner!!!

Welcome aboard Dale.  You will run into all sorts of trials and tribulations along the "K" journey but at least all the info you might need can be found here, along with many very knowledgeable and helpful fellow owners/riders. Wink

You guys have already been very helpfull with the process of giving
 my new to me k100 LT a good maintanance foundation.
I have changed all the fluids, cleaned electrical connections etc.
Using hints posted on the forum made replacing & bleeding my brake
fluid and changing-out my fork oil a breeze!(both of which really needed
it.) I used the syringe method of filling the forks. simplicity itself!
I didnt even have to put the plunger in the syringe, it flowed in like a small funnel! Of course the 102 degrees F. probably helped thin the
7.5wt oil a little.Introduction: Icon_biggrin

Welcome. Yes, in the day (70s) Norton was a good handling bike. I had a Triumph Spitfire 750, but switched over to a R90 because the British bikes were maintenance headaches. You'll find a K bike properly serviced at regular intervals to be a worry free ride. Cool

turned a wheel and the weather channel is my new best friend!Introduction: Icon_sunny

I'm hoping we get some kind of a winter here this year otherwise

I also had a Commando (actually I had 3 , funny I know have 3 K's).

I moved to the K because, as previously mentioned,  the high maintenance of the Commando but I just came across this photograph of one of my Commando's and thought it might bring back a few memories ...

I used to have a 1948 Norton ES2 and a Honda XR500 and belonged to the Norton Owners Club and I recall there was a guy who had a young son a tiny lad very short and very slight who had passed his test and was dead set on buying a Commando and one of the club members let him have a go on his. The poor little fellow could not even generate enough momentum on the kick starter to get it to fire no matter how high he jumped, there just was not enough mass to do the deed.

Dont you just love the sound of the pipes on overrun!
sometimes I wish I still had the Norton. But I love the BMW!!
Ah, the memories:
I remember the cold mornings that I would have to start the big twin
you really had to follow through with the kick using all your weight.
once or twice it kicked back and really smacked me in the arch of my foot. lucky I didnt go airborn!
